April 28,.1976 Doubt September open in g for St. Ma ry POST WINS AT THE KAWARTHA Both Junior West and Gerald Robinson posted wins at the Kawartha raceway over the past week. Both wins came last Thursday evening. Junior West drove to his win with Lilli Mac Ann, his own horse, in a time of 2.06.4 in the fourth race. Glenn Tennant in the same race placed eighth with Rob Ron Betsy. Gerald Robinson drove Rob Rori Don to a win in the sixth race in a time of 2.07.1. Junior West in the same race finished fifth with Gypsy Dance.Robinson also placed second in the ninth race with Mighty Mustang, second in the fifth driving Sesame Pick and fifth in the second with Chatham Chip. Gord Robinson of Newtonville placed placed second in the 'opening race driving Scarlet Dares. The race was won by K. B. Pride. In the third Junior. West finished fifth wi^h Laura Barmin while Derek Newman in the fifth was fourth with Wil Lor Ben. On Saturday evening Derek Newman Newman came in second spot with Hammers Miss in the tenth while Junior West was second in the seventh event with Peerless Miss, hi* own horse. The seventh was won by Chasmar Candy in a time of 2.08.1. Derek Newman was fifth with Mary Minty with Gerald Robinson finishing fourth in the second race with Hoot Van. The race went to Rob, Ron Cy in 2.08.3. SETTING A FAST PACE WITH A NEW DRIVING RECORD , On April 16th Junior West set a. new driving record for himself on two occassions during the card at the Mohawk. His first new Lifetime mark came with a win driving Homer Way owned by David Watkins and Frank Stacey of Orono. The winning time 2.03.1 Later the same night Junior again won with a time of 2.03.1 this time driving Roan Baron; a horse owned by Dr. Peter and Judie Johnston. Not satisfied with his own record West also drove Leo's Dominion to a new lifetime record. With a win on April 13 the horse established a new record of 2.06.4 only to set another ten days later when West again won with Leo's Dominion in a time of 2,03.4, a new record for the horse. THREE CONSECUTIVE WINS Robbin Winters of Orono and Cy Szymczak, joint owners of Dean of Deans have recorded three consecutive wins at the Mohawk from April 9th to April 24. Driver is Ron Waples. MUDDY GEORGE WINS IN 2.04.2 On April 25th Muddy George owned by Lawrence Hooey of Orono was driven to a win at the Mohawk by Ron Waples. Students of St. Mary's separate school, closed Sept. 12 because of the discovery of excess levels of radioactive radon gas, will probably not- be allowed to return to the school in time for school opening next September. Asks entry to 2nd marsh Osliawa City council last week decided to àsk the Oshawa Harbour Commission to allow entry to the second marsh in the municipality for members of the Oshawa Fish and Wildlife Advisory Com- ' mittee. Access is being asked to allow the group to carry out a study on fish and wildlife. Public access to the marsh has been denied by ttie Harbour Commission due to vandalism 'in i'ie area. The land was at one time owned by the City of Oshawa who< have turned it over to the Harbour Commission With ownership now being held by the Federal government. Although some naturalists see this as a breakthrough Mr. Jim Richards, president of the Oshawa Naturalists Club, points out that the move • by council should not be mistaken with a weakening in city council's desire for expanded harbour facilities in Oshawa.
