Chamber approves lights for park ■ Orono Weekly Times, June 16, 1976 Work is now underway for the installation of baseball lights at the Orono Park. The project is being sponsored by the Orono Chamber of Commerce. Commerce. The project under consideration consideration 'by the Chamber for at least a year . will provide lighting for the ball diamond and may also be adjusted to light the soccer field. Also included in the project is new lighting for the Orono Tennis Courts which at present are lighted but conditions are to be improved. In speaking with Mrs. Sue ■ Sawyer Tuesday morning, she said it appeared that • almost $7500.00 was now available for the $18,000,00 project through donations and donated work. Application has also been made to Wintario for a grant which could amount to $6,000,00. It Was felt that if response continues as it has in the past week there could be no need for financial assistance from the Town of Newcastle. Asking for Donations The Chamber is now asking for financial support for the project from the community and donations will be accepted accepted at the Orono Branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. Cheques are to be made out to the Orbno Chamber of Commerce Commerce "Lights". Support for the project is also expected from the Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen Club, the Athletic Association and the Orono Tennis Club. The Orono Hydro Commission Commission is assisting with the electrical supply while Lloyd Taylor Sand and Gravel is assisting with the installation as a donation to the project. Mr. -O. W. Rolph, a longtime longtime avid baseball fan, started started the ball rolling for the lights when he brought the project before the Chamber. Mr. Rolph has donated $500.00 toward the project. The Big Brother Association Association of Newcastle last Wednesday Wednesday kicked off its drive for members Big Brothers to ssist with their program. The sweaters were presented-by the Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen Club.
