■f- Eagles Edge Bowmanville On Wednesday, June 16, Kendal Eagles defeated the Bowmanville Electrons 3-1. Kendal 'got superb pitching from Eric Moore who pitched the complete game allowing only five hits while striking out seven batters. Bill Robinsoh was the lëading hitter for the Eagles with 2 hits and 1 RBI. B. Allred, F. Wallace, S. West, D. Richard and John Mather each had one hit with Allred also having 2 RBI. In the Recreation Soccer League Mastrangelos maintained their unbeaten record this week and so far have conceded only one goal., In the Senior division Hampton have joined the league because so many enthusiastic youngsters show up for the Tyrone practices which take place in Hampton. This means about 230 young people are involved in Soccer this year. Eagles Outscore Peterboro On Sunday, June 20, Kendal Eagles won their sixth game in nine outings by defeating the Peterboro Monarchs 8-6. Ralph Kennedy picked up his third victory without defeat as he pitched the complete game allowing only one earned run while •striking out nipe batters. Kendal was in trouble only once when Peterboro scored five unearned runs in the fifth inning on two Eagle errors followed by three Peterboro hits. Jerry Thompson had the big hit in the game with a single in the fifth inning that scored the two winning runs. D. Rickard, J. Thompson, P. Henderson, B. McCullough, and B. The local girls defeated Bowmanville 4 with a score of 14 to 9. Heather Sawyer had a good night for Orono with 3 home runs. Anita Hannam on the mound for Orono struck out 8 players and gave up only 1 walk. All the girls played very well. JUNE 15th, 1976. Again the Orono girls were victorious, defeating Bowmanville 2 with a score of 19 to ,12. Anita Hannam and Heather Sawyer shared the pitching duties, striking out 13 and walking 10. Heather Sawyer put her batting to good use and came up with 3 home runs. Shelley Richards, Colleen Moffat and Anita Hannam were credited with triples while Beth Gatchel, Paisley Stutt, Shelley. Richards and Anita Hannam (5) received doubles. The Kinsmen, Tyrone and St. Mary's No. 2 all have y$t to win a game of the four they have played. 15,000 Fans Attracted to Mosport on Sunday 15,000 race fans turned up at ' Mosport on Sunday to view the Formula 5000 race for. which all activities were cancelled on Saturday , this force Mosport to run supplementary races on a reduced basis so all activities could be included on Sunday. Mosport had called for a postponement of the event but race drivers called for it to go ahead not wishing to return again later. Britain's Alan Jones won the big race taking the lead in the fourth last lap. The win gave him $15,000.00. It was Jone's first attempt at Mospoçt and gave Mm a win over his fellow countryman, Jackie Oliver. Jones took the lead from Oliver when in the 36th lap Oliver became boxed in, "temporarily and Jones surged ahead. Oliver blamed Horst Kroll for the "boxing and later after the race sent a punch to Kroll's nose in the pit area. Jones was but .980 seconds ahead of Oliver at the checkered Hag. 'May see- Return'of Grand Prix A brief announcement at Mosport last Sunday gave some hope to district race fans that the Canadian Grand Prix may return to the track this year. The race was cancelled .last year due to a break down in negotiations between Mopsort and the driving teams. The Formula 1 Constrcutors Association Association is demanding a purse of $280,000 plus the cost of travel and accommodation for drivers and crews and this cost along with others could mount to $500,000 for Mosport and Labatt's breweries. The Association also want the race moved back a week from September 26th to October 3rd. Sunday's statement which said Mosport and Labatts Breweries Ltd. were involved in negotiations with the Formula 1 teams to get the race back is the first mention of any such envolvemënt by Mosport since last year. Newman Takes Win At Kawartha Derek Newman driving in the fifth race on Saturday night picked up a win driving Meadow Chrivan. Newman also drove to a seçond place finish in the opening feature this time driving Mary Minty. He was also eighth with Big Bad Gene and sixth with Presto Jean. On Thursday Derek was fifth driving Challenge. His first second second place finish was with à drive with Carman Chuck and later with a drive reigning Richard Clipper*. He also placed sixth with Vegas Bob. Thursday evening Robinson was second with Coastal Kelly wile Jack Williams was third with Harwil Pete, and Keith West third driving Chuckle Lind.
