Mosport to eliminate problems at track Mosport Park Ltd. who operate Mosport rade track north of Orono is making a number of changes and additions additions to their facilities in an effort to control irritating incidents which have Been disruptive to fans, corn petit- ors and the company, . Mosnort in a recent release point out that it is only a small minority who cause trouble and spoil it for everyone else. It is also pointed out that such problems do exist in provincial provincial parts, beaches and private private camping ground but that this is not to be used as an excuse not to endeavour to control certain irritating behaviours behaviours at the track. ■ In identifying the problems Mosport points to fee and easy access to the whole property by off road vehicles creating a hazard for pedist- rian spectators. They also point to vehicles on the track after racing in spite of barriers to keep them off. This has been noted as a most dangerous practice. Camping along side the rail of the track is another incident of irration as well as not being able to keep the program on schedule and : complaints over sanitary facilities. facilities. Criticisms in all these areas, note Mosport, are valid and must be corrected to cure the ills but not eliminate the good times and good racing. Mosport is to ban camping within the infield and outfield areas of the track with one exception. A new campground will be established in the northwest section of the site. This 3000 lot campsite will be laid out in streets and by lots. Each lot will be 25 feet square, The Ontario Provincial Police along with Mosport personnel will patrol the area to ensure that any unruly campers will be dealt with in such a fashion as to protect the rights of all. Camping will np longer be offered free of charge; A nominal fee of $1.00 per Chamber holding horse raffle Tne Orono and Area Chamber Chamber of Commerce have circulated circulated draw tickets on a registered Morgan mare from which the funds are to be used to help pay the cost of the new lighting system at the Orono Park. This installation at the park has been completed completed and now in operation. The new lighting system for the tennis courts is a decided improvement over the older system and there is already indication that the new lights will encourage more evening Play. The two-year old registered Morgan Mare was donated to ; the Chamber by Adanac Horse Farms. "Adanac's Bonfire" was sired by the 1976 Ontario Grand Champion. In a news letter to the •Chamber members Mr. Simpson, Simpson, chairman of the Chamber, Chamber, is hopeful of selling some 2500 tickets on the draw. This at a $1 00 a ticket wojild add 00.00 to the fund for the Vivats at the park. The total cost of the" lights for both the ball diamond, the soccer field and the tennis courts amounts to $15,300.00. Over $4000.00 has now been raised and with a grant from Wintario of $6000.00 expected in the near future the total, qost will be in range of the Chamber Another donation has aisu been received by the Chamber Chamber in an amount for the sale of hay. The donation of hay was made by Mr. Don Evans of Orono. Kirby News Church services at Kirby Centennial School have bèen well attended. The Foster - Salisbury Reunion was held on July* 11, 1976'at thé Orono Oddfellows Hall with 63 present. The convenors this year were Barbara Cochrane and Thelma Thelma Westlake. Guests arrived from all over Ontario and included members from 4 generations from both family trees. person per night' - • is being planned. The gates for camping will be open 24 hours. However, the spectator gates to the track areas will be open on Fridays, from 8 a.m, - 8 p.m. on Saturdays from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 4 a.m. - 8 p.m. Firewood which has been given to spectators free of charge in the past has also caused problems. Some spectators spectators have hoarded large caches of firewood, leaving others with none. Mosport will now sell firewood at a nominal rate to all - 50 Cents per armfull (the bigger the arm, the better the deal). Track barriers are already under construction. These barriers will be chained to existing guardrail. Mosports inability to stay on schedule has largely been caused by spectators breaking breaking bottles on the track during the night. For years, we have had a crew of 40 to 60 people pick glass off the track from sun-up until they finished. This usually meant a late start for the races. This problem is expected to be solved by eliminating camping camping in the race track area. Those spectators bring off road vehicles to the park who don't wish to have them impounded may camp in the Honda Sport Park and have the use of this 55 acre site to . ride their vehicles. To get to this area, you must enter through the B. F. Goodrich gate. Security will be established established to ensure that none of these vehicles are allowed to exit this area. All other motorcycles and off road vehicles will be impounded for the duration of the weekend. A special compound will be established at the Goodyear Gate with 24 hour security. Not only will this give the spectators a rest from the rushing around of these bikes, but it also will allow thé owners of these vehicles security in the knowledge knowledge that their bikes are safe for the weekend. The number of sanitary , facilites is to be increased ' before the Player's 200 Weekend Weekend A special crew has been assigned to do nothing but service all of these facilites as to ensure that they are kept clean, well supplied with paper and as odourless as possible.' •vroTio Weekly Times, Wednesday, July 21st, 1976--3 BOWMAN VILLE BROADLOOM HltO V il.OIIM.
