Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, August 18th, 1976 Hike in Ganaraska ends in Millbrook Saturday afternoon late a group of three girls left the Dell north of Kendal in the Ganaraska to hike east to the Durham House, just east of Highway 115 where their parents were to pick them up sometime around five o'clock p.m. Somewhere along the line the hiking course was changed changed through error and the girls ended up in the Millbrook area. The girls were returned to the Oasis Restaurant by the Millbrook O.P.P. sometime around eight o'clock in the evening. In the meantime local residents, employees of the Ministry of Natural Resources Resources and the parents had launched a search of. the forests for the children, ranging in age from thirteen to twenty. It was a happy reunion when all met after a number of phone calls. ' , The Orono Park this evening, evening, Wednesday, August 18th becomes a beehive of activity with the holding of the annual Beef Barbecue sponsored by the Orono and District Chamber Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Newcastle. First on the agenda for the evening is the now renowned beef barbecue featuring prime barbecued beef, baked potatoes, baked western beans, coffee, donuts and all the relishes. This is served hot right from the barbecue spit in the beautiful setting of the Orono Park. Furthering the program will be the western and country music of Fay Adams games. Town hires new arena consultants and the Country Hits playing during the serving and for a . brief ; period following the barbecue. This Orono Jamboree Jamboree group will also feature selections by Len Somer- scales and Joey Howe. At 7:00 p.m. plans include a Junior Girl's Lobb Ball game which will be followed by a Newcastle Town Council and staff softball team facing "All of Orono". This latter game is to go at 8:15 under the new baseball lights at the park. Tickets for the event are now bn sale with no increase in price, $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children under 12. Rutherford both of Orono and Orono area contains some 340 ■ges with close to one ( idred photographs of buildings, buildings, individuals and groups taken between the early 1800s and present. It has a hard-cover binding with a well-designed duster cover by Mrs. M. Remington of Orono. The book contains twenty chapters relating to life, industry, and municipal affairs «throughout the past history of. the area. It deals with the early settlement between 1766 and 1830 and what is then called "Seriuos Settlement" from 1830 to 1840. Farm life as early as 1803 is outlined in the book and this life advances to the early 1900s. The book also $eal£ with the early cropping of the forests and the establishment of a rthrsery in Orono. Chapter sections are also related to the establishment of Agricultural Societies, education, education, medicine and law, r ïjappemngsi... HOLDING FLEA MARKET AT ORONO FAIR The Parent's Committee of the First Orono brownies and Girl Guides are holding a Flea market at the Orono Fair.
