pas "OUT OF THE MISTS" Ganaraska to take over Forest Camp On Friday the Ganaraska Région Conservation Authority Authority approved the signing of an agreement which would turn over buildings at the Cold Springs Camp to the Authority Authority which previously were held by the Ministry of Correctional Services. The camp is located north-east Of Kendal on the Clarke-Hope boundary north of thé County Road.. The camp, had until almost a year ago been operated as an outdoor camp for the Pine Ridge School ip Bowmanville. Boys from the school were housed at the camp on a rotating basis where a program of indoor and outdoor education as well' as work within the forest was carried out. The camp is being turned over to the Ganaraska by the Ministry for the price of one dollar with no conditions attached as previously proposed. proposed. Competition at the fair is not reserved just for farm animals and farm produce. • There is a wide range of items and sections in which almost everyone can take part to make the fair a better fair. WILL RUN FOR COUNCIL Mr. Keith Barr of Newcastle has placed his name as a candidate for Municipal Council for Ward three (Newcastle, Orono and Clarke). This position is now held by Counc. Kirk Entwisle who has declared he will be running for the regional seat which will be vacated by Counc. Layll who is to run for Mayor of the Town of Newcastle. Mr. Doug Simpson who was a possible candidate for the Municipal council position last week said he would not be running if Mr. Barr sought the position and would in the near future be speaking, with Mr. Barr. Counc. Cowman is to seek the regional seat in Darlington which is to be vacated by Counc. Bruce Tink. Mr. W. H- Carman of Orono has stated he will be seeking re-election as a,Scfiool trustee in Ward three. Mr. Cameron of the Newcastle area has not made his intention known as of this date. TAX BILLS IN THE MAIL Tax bills for the Town of Newcastle for the Village of Newcastle, Orono find Clarke Township were placed in the* mail on Monday. What a happy day their arrival will make? CAFETERIAS WILL NOT OPEN UNTIL NOVEMEBER The opening of the Clarke High School Cafeteria will be fayed possibly until November due to present construction at the site of a new addition to the school. It is expected that the addition and alterations to the cafeteria Will be Completed by November. A report of August 25th notes that all footings and foundation walls are completed at the school except for the industrial arts extension. All concrete floors have been poured and that "first floor masonry walls have been completed ready for steel work. It is expected that the present gym will be in use until such time as the cafeteria is completed. 7 MAYOR CALLS SEPTEMBER MEETING A letter was received by the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of education in which was noted a Town meeting at which the Board is invited along with the Region of Durham, The Ministry of Treasury Economics. and Intergovernmental Affairs and the Town of Newcastle representatves to discuss financial implications on the local municipalities. Owner is asked to contact the office for the bike. , TO CHOOSE DAIRY PRINCESS AT ORONO FAIR A competition is again being held at the Orono Fair on Friday, September 10th at 3:00 p.Vn. to choose a Dairy Princess. To date two entries have been received, both from Blackstock, Miss Louise Van Çamp and Mary-Lou Malcolm. offers a wide range within fifty sections from homemade homemade bread to squares, cakes and pies. Mr. Len Pears of Orono displays his- Old English Game Cockerel which last week was placed first in its class at the C.N.E, Mr. Pears exhibited a total of. twenty- four birds in the Old English Game classes which is the largest class of birds at tHe- annual exhibition. In the black division Mr. Pears won the first and second Trio, 1st pullet, 1st and 2nd Cockerels, 1st and 3rd Hens as well as 4th and 5th Cocks. In the Spangles he was awarded the 1st and 2nd pullet aVards as well as the 2nd and 5 th cockerel awards : In tbe Duckwing class of Old English Games he was • awarded the 1st and 2nd pullets dnd the 3rd Cockerel. Mr. Pears also exhibited in the Plymouth Rock division taking ÿid and 4th Cockerel prizes., Mr. Pears returned from the show with a purchase of Modern Games to add to his collection of Old English Games. He purchased the 1st Cockerel and the 2nd place hen in the division. The 1st pl^ce cockerel was also the Best Cockerel of; the Show. Mr. Pears over the years has been a keen Competitor in poultry shows over the most of Ontario. His expertise in this field has rewarded him with many prizes and awards and his recent success at the C.N.E. further substantiates his knowledge of poultry.
