Similar programs were also held at the Newcastle Village pool as well as at the Bowmanville Fool in ' Memorial Park. No fall fair would ever be complete without harness racing and the Orono fair is no exception. Harness racing racing takes over at the Durham Central fair on Friday evening with post time at 7:45. There will be nine heats of racing during the evening. As an added .attraction this year there will be live entertainment between the races with Stan Parkola, the Travelling Mad Fiddler performing*. He will be accompanied by a rhythm group from the area. This entertainment is being provided provided through the generosity generosity of the Orono Businessmen Businessmen with Van Halteren Music Centre in Lindsay providing the piano. Waterfowl Day at The Ladies' LOBB ball championship was decided on Wednesday evening at the Oropo Park with the Midas Muffler girls earning the title for the year. Prior to Wednesday's game the series was tied at one game apiece between the Midas Muffler girls and the Harvey Partner girls. The championship was on the line on Wednesday with the playing playing of the third and final game. Thé Midas girls had it all their own way taking a decisive victory over the Harvey Partner girls. Early in the same evening the Bowmanyille Ninettes won the consolation trophy in their game with another Bowmanville team. LOBB ball for both men and women has proven quite -successful this year and more citizens have played ball in the area than ever before. 12--Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, September 8th, 1976 Darlington Park For many of this province's avid waterfowlers, fall begins Sunday, September September 12, when the Fifth Annual Sportsman's Sportsman's Waterfowl Day at Darlington Provincial Provincial Park takes place. Although family fun and participation are the keynotes of this one- day event, contestants in the Grand Championship Championship are already well into preparations for this pentathlon of waterfowling skills which include, duck identification, duck calling, decoy carving, retriever handling and shooting. Duck calling will be at its best when contestants contestants begin quacking their finest "duck talk" for the esteemed title, "Canadian Duck Calling Champion". and the Ministry of Natural Resources aims to demonstrate to the public the art and skills of waterfowling and foster awareness of the importance, of water- fowl management. Entrance to the park located just east of Oshawa, south of Highway Highway 401 is free on the day of the event. Apparently LOBB ball is an import from the United States where it has gained considerable considerable popularity. LOBB ball differs from softball in that there is an extra fielder and the ball has to be pitched in an arc giving everyone a real opportunity to register a hit. Not to.be missed is the hip boot race where fleet-footed contestants put their best foot forward and wallow 'through a bog filled coürse of marshy 1 obstacles. obstacles.
