jitir 1 It all happens in Orono this ■ week-end' with the staging of , the, Durham Central agricul- ■ tural fair. The fair opens, on Thursday evening and continues continues Friday and Saturday to a . conclusion on Saturday night with a dance in the arena building. During the holding of the fair thousands will pass through the turnstiles to view the exhibits and almost as important visit with friends and neighbours. The opening of the fair on Thursday evening will include include a variety show by the Leahy Family of Lakefield* with popular M.C. Ray Mc- Neilly from Bobcaygeon. Also the same evening the Team drawing competitions will be held along with the prelimin- ' aries for the Tug-O-War competition. One of the main features of the fair throughout the years has been the competition amongst area Holstein breeders breeders and this show is again this year being held on Thursday evening indoors in a large tent. The holding of the show indoors has met with great success over the past two years and with added seating capacity this year it will well repeat its popularity again Thursday evening will also see the opening of all the inside exhibits from baking to flowers and vegetables. The . poultry and rabbit shows will also be open on the opening night. Friday features all the regular exhibits along with a school parade at 1:30 p.m. Various prizes are awarded by decorated bicyles, floats and a pet'show. The Midway is open for all as is MacDonald's MacDonald's Farm, the latter having ' no charge. . One of the newer features of the fair will, be the goat show which made its first appearance appearance at Oronp in 1975 this augments others such shows as the sheep show, the rabbit 'and poultry show. A fat calf and cake "auction starts the Friday evening activities off early in the evening, 6:30 p.m. This is followed by some ten heats of harness horse racing with pari-mutuel betting. During the horse races Stan Parkola, "The Travelling Mad Fiddler' provides entertainment and is reknowned as a great entertainer. entertainer. SATURDAY'S PROGRAM The horsë show in front of the grandstand is certainly one of the features of the fair both in light and heavy classes. All other features are also in full swing during the afternoon and Saturday generally generally boasts the largest attendance. The program on Saturday afternoon will this year be greatly enhanced with the holding of the Miss Durham Central pageant for which a number of local girls have entered. Gordie Tapp will provide some grandstand live entertainment entertainment and this along with the finals for the TugrO-War will complete the activities for this portion of the fair. Saturday night dance The fair in Orono will be wrapped up with the fair dance on Saturday evening at 9:00 p.m. Gordie Tapp and the Nashville Sounds will supply the music with the dance being held in the Orono arena building. It is a fine example of the even temperment of the Morgan horse breed.
