BRYDJSN, Tax Collector • - i Ontario Building Code loading loading requirements and that closure of the arena, is required in accordance with' Provincial legislation. The report referred to the timber frames and roof purlins of the arena as grossly inadequate structurally to support the loading requirement requirement of the Ontario Building Code. It also reports many of the main timber member material of a low stress grade. It was also pointed out that floor members in the front of' the building were structurally inadequate. Repairs to make the building building structurally sound according according to the building code would amount to $170,000. But here the report states that even this amount of work would not retard the deterioration deterioration of the building. The cost of a new shell over the present ice surface was estimated at $250,000. But ■here agpin the report points out that the present site is not adeqaute for the facility of the arena and suggests that a new site for the arena should be considered. The cost of a new arena for Newcastle on a new site was estimated' at $525,000 exclusive exclusive of costs for land. TEMPORARY USE COST $30,666 The engineering report "did state that use may be made of the building on a temporary basis providing certain works were completed. The cost of this work would amount to $30,000. This would necessitate necessitate the monitoring of the wind and stress load. The building would still have to be closed if the wind force was over 35 miles per hour and the snow loadgp.pspf. The Totten, Sims and, Hubicki report substantiates the final report submitted by Leighton and fCidd who recommended recommended the building was beyond repair on a feasible basis. The next report to be submitted by the engineering firm of Tooten Sims and Hqbicki will be that of the Orono arena and Whether or not it may be used during the winter under certain conditions. conditions. This is the second round of reports on the three arenas called for by ' the Town of Newcastle. *»#••••••■•••• THE MACKENZIE GALLERY ( Continued from page 4) Information can be obtained by calling 748-1473. , The idea of the Trent University gallery first developed developed . in 1968-69 when there was a demonstrated need for greater space to accomodate exhibitions of art forms of all types. Dreadful, a real dreadful situation. The fact of L35 was brought about this week as the result of publishing a Solid Waste Management Study compiled by the James F. MacLaren Company Limited for the Durham Regional Council. The work was commissioned by the Region of Durham in October 1974. According to the study, L35 will be created by expanding , the capacity of the existing Darlington landfill site located located at the 10th Concession in the vicinity of Lot 31. To start the expansion the district waste from Uxbridge Township Township will now be trucked to Darlington as the formerly used Uxbridge site disposal contract ended on August 31, 1976. When the garbage dump ,at Scott Township is closed in November of this year, the waste of Scott will wind tip in Darlington. Action at Darlington will Continued'.
