This September the number has reached 578. School has opened irregardless of conditions due to construction. Many of the problems now facing the staff and students are expected to be corrected within the next month or two even though construction construction will continue into 1977. Four new teachers have been added to the staff at Clarke being : Miss S. Abrams, art; Mrs. B. Heeringa, commercial; Miss M McCracken, commercial and Ms. L. Greenwood, development reading. ORONO ENROLMENT DOWN Enrolment at the Orono Public School has dipped somewhat this year with the major change in the kindergarten section. Total enrolment on opening day was 284 compared with 303 at the same time in 1975. It is expected that the Orono enrolment will increase somewhat over the next few months. In a newsletter to parents the school notes the activeness of the Home' and School Association and points to the first meeting of the group when they hold a "Meet the Teacher's Night early in October. A book fair will be held at the school under the sponsorship of Association Association on October 13th and 14th. ' ENROLMENT INCREASES ' ATTHE PINES Enrolment at the Pines Senior Public School has increased from 370 in September of 1975 to 397 in September of 1976. Staff at the school has been increased by one with six new teachers joining the staff. New members, to the staff are; Mr. Jim Dupuis, grade 7 core subjects ; Mr. Gordon Ferguson, grade 7 core subjects, Mrs. Mary Gibson, grade 8 core subjects ; Mr. . John Hobson, art and social studies; Miss Susan Wannamaker, social studies; and Miss Mary White, 1 physical education.. In speaking with the principal, Mr. Bolton, he stated that the opening of the school this year was exceptionally smooth and there appeared a lot more enthusiasm and immediate school spirit. He also noted that the school is planning an Elective program this year and is hopeful of gaining the support of local citizens to assist with the program of teaching subjects which are not associated with the curriculum, KIBRY CENTENNIAL SCHOOL The Kirby Centennial School this year comprises both the Kendal and the Kirby publi$ school and has a total enrolment of 224 students with 51 of these students at the Kendal school. Const. Dave MacKay of the Newcastle detachment and Det. Insp. A.B.R. Smith of the Q.P.P. criminal investigations branch are leading the investigation. Police have no suspects at this time. SEEKING RE-ELECTION Mr. George Cameron announced on Monday that he will be seeking re-electiop, to the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Educatibn cpme December 6th. Mr. Cameron is completing his first term with the board, from Newdastle- Clarke area.' • SALARY COMMITTEES RECONVENE On Monday,the Board Teacher Salary committee held its first 'meeting since the summer recess and following a meeting of one half hour were joined by the negotiating committee for the Secondary School teachers. A tentative agreement has been announced between the Board and the Secretaries for 1976-77 and a ratification meeting is to be held on September 2lst. The School Board has also directed that* the sum of $2,400 be added to, the salary of each Senior Official as of September 1, 1976.
