6--^Orono, Weekly Times, W* Kendal Eagles top Senior "D" team in Ontario i The Kendal Eagles for the first time in their history have brought an Ontario Championship to Kendal when over the week-end their won the O.B.A. Senior "D" title. The title came to the.Kendal squad after defeating Hagersville two straight games in the final championship series with victories in Hagersville Saturday and on their home ground Sunday afternoon. For a good number of players on the team it was their first championship. This is with the exception of the recent juniors who have moved to the Eagles after winning a Junior Championship a few years ago. Both games held plenty of suspense and showed a good brand of baseball. On Saturday Kendal defeated Hagersville in Hagersville by a score of 6-4 but it was not until the fifth inning that the Eagles reached the score board. In the fifth Bill Robinson hit a home run with the bases loaded to put the Eagles out in front 4-1. From this point on they never looked back and Robinson returned with two further hits. Mike Carman pitched the first six and one-third innings giving Up four runs before Erice Moore came to the mound to register a shutout in the remainder of the game. Kendal outhit Hagersville in this game 14 to 11. Local spectators were kept on the edge of their seats Sunday in Kendal when Hagersville went ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning on a home run slam. This edge held up until the eighth although Kendal did in the fifth load the bases with only one out. In the eighth the hits registered for Kendal and they scored six runs off seven hits. Once again it was Bill Robinson who drove out a single to score the tying and winning run. This gave momentum for a further four counters. Ralph Kennedy pitched a superb game as he allowed only four hits while striking out nine batters. Kendal outhit Hagersville 13-4 in the game. Some fine defensive plays were registered by the Hagersville's short-stop early in the game to stop some scoring plays by Kendal. The game was an excellent feature with plenty of good ball. The Kendal Eagles, the winners deserved the championship. championship. The Eagles would like to thank all the fans that came out and supported them during the playoffs and during the season. This support is greatly appreciated. . Thé Eagles now continue their league play-offs against Ajax with their > first home game being played sometime this week-end. A NOTE FROM A CONCERNED PARENT As winter spqrts organize for .the 76-77 season one of our readers and a local sports fan has suggested that parents 'of these young athletes take a good look at the accident insurance programme offe- ed through Frank Cowan Insurance. The application forms are distributed through the schools to each family. The local hockey teams do have a basic plan and a , number of people in this area have a dental plan, but the year-round accident insurance insurance offered by this firm is one of the most comprehensive bn the market. The premium,is relatively inexpensive, particularly particularly considering the , exposure in organized sports today. The remaining 25 per cent is to be raised" through public subscription. subscription. In a letter to all operators of suspect arenas, Dr. Stephenson has stated: "1 realize, of course, that the closure of an arena could have a serious effect on the recreational and social activities of your community this winter, but I believe that we have a mutual obligation to ensure that an arena does not pose a hazard ter those who use it."
