Professor AAcKechnie Appointed The Education Relations Commission today announced the appointment of Professor Graeme McKechnie as a fact finder to assist the Northumb- erland-Newcastle Board of Education and its teachers in their negotiations. Both elementary and secondary school teachers' branch affili- ; a tes are involved and Professor Professor McKechnie will assist with both sets of negotiations. A Commission spokesman said that the fact finder will prepare à report on each of the negotiations identifying the outstanding issues that 'have led to an impasse. ProfeSbor McKechnie is expected to present a report within 30 days of each of the disputes. The report will set forth the positions. of both sides and may or may not make recommendations on settlèment terms. The report will be preserved to both parties. If there is still no agreement within 15 days, or at the latest within 20 days, the report will be made public. The parties can ask for binding arbitration, or a selector to decide which of 'the parties' offers to impose, or the teachers may decide to take strike action. The Commission was established established in 1975 under Ontario Government legislation to foster harmonious collective bargaining relations between school boards and teachers in the Province.
