October 27th, 1976 Orono Bantam Girls At the Kawartha Orono Bantam Girls defeated Bow- mànville No. 1 with scores of -25-17 and 13 7 12 ih .Order to become semi-finalists . against Hampton. Top hitters for the first game were Anita Hannam, Heather Sawyer, and Colleen Moffat. In thësecond game, top hitters were Beth Gatchell, Jlhelly Richards, and Andrea Williams. Inr our best out of three games with Hampton, the first game ended in a draw. • The final score was 13 all. Top go-getters were Beth Gatchell, Anita Hannam, Colleen Moffat and Shelly Richards. The second game ended in a victory for Hampton. Final score : 19-10, Anita# Hannam pitched the game and in a loosing cause belted out two homeruns, a triple and a single. Other hitters for Orono were Beth Gatchell and Andrea Williams; A third game had to be defaulted due to a lack of players owing to bad weather , conditions and the injury to one Orono , player who suffered a broken nose when Warming up in Bowmanville. Lura Bridger and Allison Rahm Last Thursday at the Kawartha raceway two Orono drivers wrapped up the first two finishing positions in the sixth race. Junior West driving Glenholme Joe placed first with Gerald Robinson driving Carman Chuck in the second finishing position. Doug Allen's horse Glory A1 was the winner of-the third event in a time of 2.12.2. In the same event another local horse owned by Max Moore placed in seventh position at the wire. In the second race Junior West finished in third spot driving Chas. Peake's horse, Harwil Pete. The win wdTit to Hilltop Donna in 2.07.3. Junior West finished third in the fourth with Bit of Class while in the fifth Derek Newman made a bid for the win ending in second place driving Mary Minty. Gerald Robinson was fifth in the seventh with Snowman Pero. In a seven horse field in the sixth race on Saturday night three of the horses entered were from Orono. The win went to 'joister Minbar in 2.10. John Slater's horse, Lilli MacAnn placed second with William Hannah driving his own horse, Ro Ann Valley to the foruth place finish. The Max Moore horse, Silver Lad, driven by Gord Robinson placed sixth. Gerald Robinson was third in the fourth with Richland Clipper while in the seventh race the Don Lycett horse, Chuckie Lind was second. The seventh was a win for Sun Brier Rose in 2.07.2. Add tomatoes, rice, salt, pepper, chili powder, powder, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and corn niblets. Cover and simmer 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Makes "4 to 6 servings. Cook until tender. Drain well and discard fat. Makes 13 cups. May be frozen in portions suitable for one meal for your family. Last Thursday at Cold Springs Camp 245 public school students from the western area took part in a Harrier Meet. Students represented represented a total of thirteen schools, both junior and Senior Public schools. The top thirty in each of the four events will take part this Wednesday, weather permitting, permitting, in an area meet to be held in the Gore's Landing area. Students from all over the Northumberland and Newcastle area will compete in this competition. THE WINNERS In the Junior Girls, 1500 metre, Mandy Huxter of Mitchell Corners was -the winner with a time of 9:38 for the course. Jenny Lewins, of Kirby-Kendal was second, Jeanette Armstrong of Orono third, Kim Haagmans of Hampton Junior fourth. In the Junior boys Billy Wry covered the planned course in a winning time of 8:45. Billy Wry is also from Mitchell Corners. Steven Taylor and Marty McDonald of Hampton Junior were second and third while Tim Cowie of North Courtice was fourth with Steven Bob from Orono ending ending up in fifth place. Bill Tate from Orono placed eleventh and Don Daxtater thirtieth. In the Intermediate boys Paul Cox of Bowmanville Senior Public covered the 3000 metre course with a time of 11: 43 to win. Greg Martin of the Pines was a close second in the event. Other Pine student in the qualifying number are: Dan Simpson fourth, Jim Boyd eighth, Todd Haynes eleventh, Danny Bar- low thirteenth, Wolfgang Reu- er, fifteenth, George Popa- dich 23rd, Paul Reed 26th and Steve Mehring 32rd. The winning time of 8:05. for the Intermediate girls went to Diane Peggie of M. J. Hobbs with Sharon Lockhart of the Pines placing second. Other Pine's placements were: Donna Mendonca 4th, Cindy Ruperty 5th, Susan Housley 7th. Jamboree in Orono on The Orono Country Jamboree Jamboree will, hold their first sho^ of the, new season on Sunday afternoon, November 7th at 2:00 p,mi in the Orono Youth Centre (Town Hall, Orono). Guest ' Artists are Terry Curtis of the Roseneath area, David and Cherly Brown of Port Hope, "The Country Teens" with Lynda Mitchell, Danny Card, Jeff Jowe and Donnny Cole.
