10-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 17th, 1976 Five of our latest donations have concerned schools or teaching. .The largest one came from Mr. Gleibs - a bùndle of old examination papers dating between 1885 and 1922, Governing many subjects: e.g. Grammar and •Language, Reading (Written), (Written), Book-keeping and Pei\- , manship, Physiology and Temperance. E ven older than these was a book published in 1818 on book-keeping, inscribed by Hiram Bowen, 1845; this fine, leather-bound volume was given to us by Mr. Stanley Bowen, his grandson. And we received two school photos. One, a 1956 photo of Grades 7-8 from Newcastle we were very pleased to be given by Mrs. Ethel Lycett; it is, our only Newcastle school photograph to date. The other photo - of a Starkville school group taken around 1912 - came to us among other items from Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Wood; these included a L.O.L. coat formerly belonging belonging to Mr. William John Robinson, some L.O.L.' badges, badges, and a family album with several photos in it that had been done in a home, not at a. studio - quite unusual. And the fifth gift was a collection of old papers, brought to us through Mrs. Bonnie Banks from Mrs. A. H. Russell; they include report cards and poems copied by children: two about the death of the Lindbergh baby, and another with this verse in it: little When Grandpa was a boy They used the switch quite free, To give him what he well deserved For once he was like me, Kendal News We have had extremely cold weather during the first half of November often called Squaw winter.
