6-Orono Wfeekly Times, Wednesday, December 1st, 1976 ORONO O.M.H.A, HOCKEY NEWS MIDGET Monday, November 22, the Orono O.M.H.A. Midgets travelled to Port Perry arid were soundly defeated by à score of 6-2. The first Orono goal came near the end of the second pèriod, scored by Doug Kramer, assist to Gary Bridger. The second Orono goal came at the start of the third by Kerry Davis, from Doug Kramer and Mark Charland. On Wednesday, November 24th, the O.M.H.A. Midgets again ventured out of their town to Newcastle and were defeated 4-2. Orono opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Mark Charland, assisted by Pat Williams. Newcastle tied the score early in the second but Orono came back to take the advantage with a goal from Pat Williams, assist to Doug Kramer. Newcastle came back to get 3 making the final score 4-2. O.M.H.A. BANTAMS On tuesday, Nov. 23rd, the O.M.H.A. Bantams played iri Newcastle. The first period saw Newcastle get one goal and then they added another in the second period. Newcastle opened the scoring in the third and seconds later Joe Seneco got one for Orono to put them on the scoreboard. Then Newcastle added another another to end the game 4-1. Saturday, Nov. 27th, the Bantams travelled to Pickering to play a game there. Pickling got one goal in the first period and opened the scoring in the second. Jim Moffatt got an unassisted goal on a sizzling shot from the outside of the blue line to get Orono into the game. The boys then got some foolish penalties and Pickering added three more goals. Martin Perry blasted in Preston Long's pass to open the scoring in the third period but the boy's just couldn't get any more by'the Pickering goalie and the game ended 7-2. Dan Mitchell has been giving the boys super goal tending during the past games. ATOMS On Nov. 27th, Orono entertained Port Hope with the local boys coming out on the short end of the score by 5-1. The score did not indicate the playing in the game. Randy Tennant scored the lone Orono goal with Greg Vey assisting. The Atom team is now sponsored by Francis Tennant Fuels and his support is greatly appreciated. UNITED COUNTIES HOCKEY ATOMS The Atoms had their first game Friday night and tied Millbrook 1-1. The Orono goal was scored by Kevin Taylor with assist going to Derek Mumford and Steven Mitchell. Jeff Tervanien played a good game in goal. PEE WEE The Pee Wee's had their first game Saturday, and beat Millbrook 4-2. Goals for Orono were scored by: Brett Johnson, Terry Watson, Steve Stec (tie-breaker) and Steven Wood. Assists went to: Kirk Carr, Danny Cowan, Steve Stec. Boys played a good strong game with a lot of team effort. Mark Stapleton tended the net well for Orono. KAWARTHA CLOSES FOR REST OF YEAR The Kawartha on Saturday night ended the season for the year. Racing will start up again in mid January when cards will be presented for the first part of the season on Sunday afternoons. On Thursday two Orono drivers posted wins at the Kawartha with the first by Derek Newman driving ThankU Bob to its first win. In the tenth race Junior West took his win driving Glenholme Joe. Newman also posted a second place finish with Mary Minty while in the same event Gerald Robinson finished fifth with Golden Herbert. Robinson was also third with New Broom. Gord Robinson driving Peaches finished second in the seventh with Junior West placing fourth in the same race with Harwil Pete. On Saturday night Gerald Robinson drove Worthy Rapid», a horse owned by Keith West to a win. Derek Newman completed the same feat driving Glen Tennant's hoarse, Valiant Colleen. In the ninth race Robinson finished third with Meadow Man with Newman close behind in fourth place driving Don's Doub. Junior West was a winner at the Mohawk recently driving Frank Stacey's and Dave Watkin's horse, Famed Yankee. SENOIRS' PROJECT GETS TOWN APPROVAL A 108-unit senior citizen housing project proposed by a Bowmanville developer has won the support of Newcastle officials.
