A telephone call shortly after, from the Times office notified Woodyard that he had won the seat. A big change in a couple of minutes. Three present members went down to defeat as a result of the vote on Monday being Regional Councillor Renneth Lyall who sought the position of Mayor, Regional councillor Ivan Hobbs of Bowmanville who again sought fhe same seat on council and who was away behind his competition in the racR Mrs. Ann .Cowman who serves on council as the local councillor for Ward 1 was in a running battle with Bruce Taylor for the Regional council seat and lost out by a (Continued page 9) Garnet Rickard Incumbent Mayor Garnet Rickard received the support of the electorate on Monday to continue as Mayor for anoth-. er two years. The incumbent Mayor took a decided edge over his only opponent, Kenneth Kenneth E. Lyall of Newcastle. Total vote across the municipality municipality for Rickard was 5771 with "Lyall receiving 3643 vQtes. Following the retdrns the Mayor elect stated he attributed attributed his success in the election to the fact that he had confronted the' issues, of which there were a number, and that the electorate had appreciated this approach. Mayor Rickard stated he would be taking a week off. MeCuage, Castleton retired retired from the board with Maurice Prout also giving up his seat to run for regional council out of Ward 2 in the. Town of Newcastle. Santa visits Orono jamboree Santa made a big impression impression on the young and old Sunday 'afternoon at the Orono Country Jamboree in th Orono Town Hall. He came dancing happily out on the stage and done a little jig with the M.C. Sterling Mather. Santa drew the- tickets for the lucky winners- and then sat down on stage to chat with the children and hand out candy canes to them all. He then wandered through the crowd shaking hands with the adults and passing out the remainder of his candy canes. Artists to appear on the show was Les Powney from Oshawa, Mel Clingman from Lindsay, Lynn Greer 12 year old tap dancer from Cobourg and Harlie Elder from Baltimore Baltimore on fiddle, Everyone doing an excellent job.
