STJTT Wintario grant for clarke library Plans are now underway to make use of a Wintario grant amounting to $5,333 for renov ations at its Clarke Public- Library and to add additional equipment and furniture. A sum of $3,333 from Wintario will be available for the renovations which would open the senior library section section into the south room now used for children's picture books. This means the construction construction of an open doorway from the senior section to the south room. The picture books will be moved to the junior room. A sum of $2,000 from Wintario has also been alloted for further shelving at the Clarke Library as well as possible purchase of audiovisual audiovisual equipment. With these new developments developments it has been statèd that over 4,000 new books could be accommodated at the Clarke Library. Plans are now being drafted drafted on which tenders will be received for the work. At the present time the library in Orono has almost reached its maximum as to receiving further books. The library, board is using monies presented to the Clarke Library through à gift as its part in financing the project. Renovations are currently in progress to bring the building up to fire regulations. regulations. These repairs are being undertaken by the Visual Arts Centre because it is entering into a long term leasing arrangement with the Town of Newcastle for use of the whole mill as an Arts Centre. Renovations are urgently needed because the upcoming program promises to be the most ambitious yet undertaken undertaken by the Visual Arts Centre. An extensive pottery program program in the basement of the mill including a studio and youth's workshop will begin the week of January 17, 1977. As well Christopher Keene will be teaching a ten week course on practical approaches approaches and techniques in sculpture. sculpture. , Eli Van Ryn will again, instruct in weaving on the centre's 10 "four-harness looms ".As well Joan-Marie Dean offers a print-making course for, which no previous experience is required. This one course will be taught in Oshawa. A children's art course for 7 to 12 year olds will be held in • the ipill instructed by Anne 'Syfne. Beginning in March and April the Visual Arts Centre has courses planned in woven wall hangings with Elizabeth Bunton, water colours with Janet McGhee, life drawing, and additional pottery and children's art classes. The centre is also offering a special discount to those interested in quilting who take both the creative stitching stitching and applique courses offered by Susan Biss. Courses vary from 6 to 10 weeks and costs range from $12.00 to $28.00. The Visual Arts Centre has also planned a number of weekend* workshops which to date include water colours, monoprinting, ikat, raku pottery, pottery, and natural dyeing. The proposal outlines station details, an assessment of the potential environmental impact and the steps taken to discuss the station with the public to date. A Community Impact report has also been submitted to the Minister of Energy. This study examines the socio-economic impact that the proposed generating station will have on the area. The Minister wishes to be assured that all citizens have had an opportunity to comment on the proposed generating facility and therefore, is prepared to receive comments on the reports up to March 1, 1977.
