2-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 17th, 1979 Orono Weekly Times YOUR HELP BEING ASKED Memorial Hospital in Bowmanville is asking some one thousand residents in the area to provide for them information through the completion and return of a questionnaire. This questionnaire is being mailed out this week to the selected residents. This request is an opportunity for local residents'to not only assist the hospital board in the planning for the future but is also an avenue for residents to express their opinion as to the service provided. All too often we tend to take the existance of the hospital and its services for granted. We also often fail to realize it is governed by both appointed and elected representatives from the community who give their time so that this community has a service when needed twenty-four hours of the day, seven days of the week. In many ways the operation of the business of the hospital is not unlike that for the municipal services of roads, water and other such service. The Board of directors of the Hospital must work within guidelines set by the province which is also the case with the Town council. Perhaps fortunately the profile of the hospital operation is not that of the municipal council. In reality, however, the hospital does provide what one might call a most personal service and a service where breakdown could be disasterous. The balance of life is the chief concern. The Hospital Board must face the balancing of the budget, must be receptive to changing technology and new intricacies of operation and as well must now operate within the restraints of the provincial government. Its your hospital operated for your well being in the time of need. Take the few minutes it requires to fill the questionnaire, its to your benefit. * Durham East Liberal Association to Hold AnriuaI Meeting Jan. In all a total of one hundred and twenty-five bills received government attention of which one hundred and six were passed into law, four were withdrawn and the remaining fifteen left on the order paper for further debate. debate. To alleviate the serious shortage of skilled workers in the province, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities is working to bring renewed focus to apprenticeship training. training. In the months ahead the government, together with business, will also explore ways to expand apprentice- , ship and careers essential at "head office". The Occupational Health and Safety Act consolidates all legislation dealing with the health and safety of workers. This Act, which has been the subject of detailed scrutiny and extensive debate, represents represents a significant advance in safeguarding the health of Ontario's working men and women. Ceilings on earning eligibility eligibility and maximums on Workmen's Workmen's compensation benefits were increased on the first of July. New benefits in mini- mim compensation for temporary temporary or permanent disability, disability, as well as pension increases and other allowances allowances for dependents, were also introduced. There has also been a conscientious effort within all Ministries to improve relations relations between government and the public in keeping with the policy of better customer service and reducing bureaucratic bureaucratic red tape. Premier Davis has stated that in the new year the Government of Ontario will continue to press upon national national policies in areas such as industrial development, manpower, manpower, inter-provincial and international trade that will assure a better life for a growing population of Canadians Canadians living in Ontario. Further government will not always be able to meet all of its new responsibilities with new revenues. It will have to be more selective in providing funds where it is most needed and where it will do the most good. Jn discovering new ways to grow, we will have to make some tough decisions and we will have to acknowledge that many of the old arrangements arrangements and expectations will simply, have to be put aside. The Government of Ontario is excited by the challenges ahead, and it is determined and confident that it will find the answers worthy of the Community Care honors R.
