The NDP does not see these people as the villains who cfeated Unemployment, Unemployment, but as the victims. They not only need the assistance of government to survive their period of unemployment but to see to it that the economy is stimulated stimulated in sucji a way that job opportunities become available available again. Surely our society can do better than penalize its' victims. Whether you are unemployed unemployed or employed, plan to attend this important meeting to discuss what political action can be taken to alleviate the burden of unemployment on our society. society. . Candidate comments on bank interest rate Fred McLaughlin, NDP candidate for Durham Northumberland, Northumberland, has said that the raising of the interest rate by the Bank of Canada will have serious consequences for the small businessman at the local level' The high interest rate makes expansion plans more unlikely and in many cases makes it difficult for the small businessman to hold his own. He said that he personally knew of a local builder who had postponed construction of eight houses. The tradesmen the builder has to lay off will probably go on unemployment insurance. With the new Unemployment Insurance Act these tradesmen tradesmen will have their income cut up to 60 percent. The reduction in their purchasing power will be reflected in a wfeaker local market place. While the Liberal Government's Government's action may affect the decline of the dollar, it will also increase unemployment. Such actions drives up consumer consumer interest rates which in turn creates other problems. What we need is a government government that has seriously considered our economic problems problems and proposed solutions - that is, an NDP government.
