8-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 31st, 1979 Kendal News The snow fell softly in the .'night; On every branch and twig it' lay', '■■■■■ Revealing with the mçrtûng light A scene of sparkling artistry. No hand could paint, no fingers trace The perfect beauty on Earth's face. David Hope. • On Thursday morning when we awakened there was about ten inches of snow on top of the cars and everything else including the trees that were heavy with ice from the freezing rain on Wednesday. On Friday we received our January thaw when the water lay in puddles on all the sunken sidewalks in Port Hope. The weatherman had told us that the thaw would come after January' 22 and the forecast was correct. Some city people take unwise risks in winter driving and cross country skiing. A week ago Sunday one young, couple decided to try cross country skiing. They left Toronto and travelled on the 115 to the eighth line, then east along the eighth line till they came to a little used road going north which they followed to a dead end. This is as far as the snow plow goes but they continued on up a very steep hill towards Mrs. Stevens farm building. They slid off into the ditch. Two snowmobiles came by and they asked them to send a tow truck to pull them out. All afternoon a very blustery day they waited for the tow truck with their motor running. Just at dark they climbed the hill on foot and went to Mrs. Stevens door and asked her go get help. Fortunately a neighbour neighbour was able to come with his tractor and pull them but. Suppose they had gone skiing and got lost. Should people go off into the Ganaraska Forest where no trail is marked and stormy conditions may cover their tracks? - Mrs. Julie Jackson has returned from a Carribean cruise and a stop in South America which they enjoyed. Mrs. Clarence Thertell spent last week in Bowmanville Bowmanville Hospital taking treatment, Sunday morning was a fine mild day. The church attendance attendance was rather small. Mrs. Keith Wood played the Hammond Hammond organ as Mrs. Allen Foster is visiting in California. California. We were favoured with a beautiful contralto solo by Mrs. Judy Fonk of Woodstock entitled, "Let there be peace on earth". - Rev. A. Tiziard chose as his scripture reading Zechariah 14:1-15. His topic was, "Light at evening time". He said Zechariah was really the Revelations of the old testament testament in Chapter 14, verse 7: ' 'But it shall come to pass that at eventime it shall be light." On February 7th the hymnsing hymnsing will be held in Kendal church. ^ x_ ■ I FltNESS Non I I Fitness is a national isSUe.
