Lockhart boys obtained silver medallions and a runner-up plaque for their second place finish in the tournament. Mr. Witheridge and Mrs. Deremo coached the Orono players, while Mr. Eames and Mr. Dupuis shared responsibility for the Lockhart teams. Constable Don Anderson of the Durham Regional Police, recently presented a film and discussion of winter safety to pupils at Orono and Lockhart. The film pointed out the dangers of snow tunnels, frozen lakes and rivers, tobogganing near roads and other winter hazards. Constable Constable Don returned to Mrs. Deremo's class at Orono to make a presentation about fingerprinting. This was part of a Grade Four study which had arisen from a reading assignment. A general meeting of the Lockhart Community was held at Lockhart school on Wendesday, January 31. Lockhart Grade Six pupils have followed the visual novel "Tom Gratten's War". Primary pupils have seen the "readalong" series and, other levels have viewed the "All About Me" series which is part of Human Growth and Development Curriculum. These and other •programs are broadcast through the Ontario Education Education Television facilities, and have provided a useful teaching aid within class programmes for several years. Sawyer * * w Office 983-51 IS Home 983-5270 Main St., Orono Clarke girls win Volleyball meet The Clarke High School Senior Girl's Volleyball team won a Volleyball tournament held in O'Neill Collegiate, Oshawa, last Saturday. The team will now defend their COSSA championship at a further tournament to be held in the Bowmanville High School on March 1st. In the tournament last Saturday there were ten teams entered representing schools from the Oshawa area. The Clarke team advanced advanced to the, semi-finals where they defeated the Bowmanville High School squad. In the final series the. Clarke girls came up against McLaughlin Collegiate where with a win they clinched the tournament championship. The Clarke girls defeated the McLaughlin girls two straight games in the tournamènt. The COSSA tournament to be held on March 1st will have the senior girls competing in Bowmanville while the Junior girls will be competing in the Clarke High School. The Clarke senior girls are the defending champions, of the COSSA tournament. The Clarke team is made up of the following players : Carol Selby, Trish Barnes, Laurie MaCDonnell, Anita McKnigbt, Karen Henry, Barb Lempen, Cheryl Miller, Caroline Cochrane, Robin Ibbotson, Heather Sawyer, Laura Bryn Jones.
