"The economic and social fibres of Canada are disiiL tegrating because of the lack of commitment and lack of policy at the political level. It is crucial that we elect a federal government committed committed to developing an industrial industrial game plan based on Canada's resources. Using the oil and natural gas sector, the potential for the expansion of a Canadian petro-chemical industry and related manufacturing sector is there, waiting to be developed. The resources, the ■ expertise, and the tools to improve our industrial future . are already in place. The only link missing is a federal government willing to undertake undertake the job on behalf of all Canadians. If we act now many thousands of jobs, many of them highly skilled can belong belong to Canadians. The NDP industrial strategy for Canada Canada would set out to achieve this potential through: 1. Planning agreements with the private sector; 2. À Canadian investment fund; 3. A revised tax policy that encourages Canadian development development and job creation; 4. Joint ventures with the private private < sector and publicly owned development. These steps can be taken, not only in the petro-chemical industry, but in mining, fishing and pulp and paper. The key to a healthy Canadian economy is the development of Canadian resources resources bÿ Canadians for Canadians! Now is the time to get on with the job. b red McLaughlin, , NDP Candidate.
