It is an exciting new dimension to the Ministry's Ministry's Wintario grants program. program. Clarke High School News This past week was a first for Clarke. It was our First Winter Carnival. We started our week with an assembly where we choose the Snow King and Queen. The winners, Soroya Heggy and Lance Payne received free passes to various events throughout the week. During the lunch hours raffles were held. The different different raffles included, guess the number of door knobs, toilet seats and jellybeans. Also buttons were sold. On Tuesday, any student who wanted to go Public Skating could do so from 11:30 to 12:30. Car pools were arranged for transporting students to and from the arena. On Wednesday, classes were stopped at 11:00 a.m. From 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon all students had lunch, then from 12 to 1:00 p.m. there was two volleyball matches. One match was girls versus hoys, and a second match was the Teachers versus the grade Thir'teens. The boys narrowly won the match against the girls and the Teachers with a lot of luck beat the grade thir teens. Both matches proved to be a lot of fun for both the participants and the observers. On Thursday, the movie, "You'll like Mother"," was shown to students who wished to see it during the three lunch hours. On Thursday night, the group "Max Webster" came and played at the school. The concert was a success and everybody enjoyed it. Girls Jr. Volleyball won the L.O.S.S.A. tournament. They, beat Vanier, who were last years champs, and 1 Dennis O'Conner. Orono The Region of Durham has approved two contracts totalling totalling $1.2 million for sewer mains on Trull and Nash Road to service the Courtice Heights sub-divisions. The sub-divisions are to accommodate accommodate some 4000 people and the mains are oversized to accommodate a population in the area up to 30,000. An Ontario Municipal Board hearing is to begin on April 17 to consider amendments amendments to the Durham Regional Regional Official Plan. Region support three year term The council of the Region of Durham last week supported a proposal from the Region of Peel that a three-year term exist for local municipalities and Regional councils. The proposal did meet with some opposition from regional regional council members who supported the present term of two years. Counc. John Aker of Osh-, awa stated, that regional and local municipal council^ were the closest to the people and that as such the present .two-year term makes council piembers more responsible to the electorate.
