Romano Sons,, Toronto, for the construction of a water reservoir in the Village of Newcastle. The highest bid for the contract was in the amount of $334,900. The reservoir is designed to provide pressure control and storage for fire protection and emergency purposes. The Romano bid was one of eleven. A further contract was awarded to Wm. Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth. and Sons Ltd. in an amount of $345,787 to construct construct 2,750 metres of water " main. This main will connect the water reservoir with the . • main water line for the Village. There were twenty bids submitted for this contract contract with the highest bid being $627,007.00. Both projects are expected to start this coming month and be completed late fall. Both projects are to be. funded from the province with the ministry of the environment providing a subsidy subsidy of $132,600 and the ministry of housing providing a loan of $780,400. The project is being undertaken undertaken by the region of Durham and will provide water service in the Village for 7000 to 8000 people.
