Table third phase Bowmanville Mall Council on Monday tabled any decision on the third phase of the Bowmanville Mall after a request from Mr. Peter Weston speaking on behalf of the development. , Mr. Weston said he would let the decision be made when Counc. Hobbs was in attend- • ance at the meeting. Hobbs has been unable to attend meetings of late due to illness. Weston in reporting to council stated that fourteen businesses were now housed in the Mall employing 48 full-time employees and 52 part-time employees. He said the third phase of the Mall would include a department store along with some smaller businesses. He said this development would create a further 150 jobs in Bowmanville. He also referred to a study completed by students at the Bowmanville High School in which 1000 residents of Bowmanville Bowmanville were interviewed with the majority in support of further shopping facilities in Bowmanville. He pointed out that Counc. Hobbs had taken leadership in. this development and asked that council hold off any decision until such time as the council member could, be present. M3K 1Z2 Keith Shackelton who was elected in the November election to the Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education from the Bowmanville Bowmanville ward was given a further reprieve from attending. The decision was made on Thursday Thursday night at the regular board meeting. Shackelton, due to illness, has only attended the in- augaural meeting of the Board- of Education. His reprieve is for another three meetings. Shackelton expects to be able to attend the first part of April and it has been reported if this date cannot be met he intends to resign. It has been reported that Bob Burke, Bowmanville, a defeated incumbent trustee in the past election would again consider the position when and if it becomes vacant. Allan Strike, also of Bowmanville, Bowmanville, has apparently made it known that he could be interested in the position. Strike was a former member of the Board and recently a member of the Durham College Board of regents. Since the meeting the option has been signed by both parties with a closing date of June 30th. The Nature Conservancy of Canada will pay some 34 percent of the cost with the province paying 66 percent of the cost. Both parties have given their approval for the purchase. The funds, some $6,500.00 from the Nature Conservancy of Canada have been provided through donations from the thirty-eight Conservation Authorities within the province province of Ontario. The area will be dedicated in recognition recognition of three men, A.H. Richardson, J.D. Thomafe and A.S.L. Barnes, who were most instrumental in the formation of. Conservation Authorities in the Province and especially of their work within the Ganaraska area ip the 1940s. The A.H. Ganaraska accepts lakefront land The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority gave their stamp of approval at a full authority meeting last Thursday to accept a strip of land along the* Lakeshore of Lake Ontario in Haldimand Township. The land will be maintained .as open space by the Authority and is being donated free of any charges. The Authority has accepted the land on the condition that a fence be -constructed along abutting properties and that a parking lot is also constructed for use in the area. The land ranges from 300 to 400 feet back from the lake and also includes an area in the flood pla'in designated as hazard lands. The strip runs some 3800 feet along the làke. The take-over of the land was requested by the Township Township of îlaldi'mand following a request from 1 the Authority that a proposed development have a set back from the lake of 300 to 400 feet, an erosion distance which covers one hundred years.
