Orono House League Pee Wees On Monday, Feb. 26'h the Tennant Fuel vytoms hosted the Port Perry "B" for an exhibition game. Orono defeated Port Perry by a score of 4-3 in a game ' which saw Orono come from a 3-1 deficit. Orono goals were scored by Scott Irwin, Steve Lycett, Keith Vey and Paul Henry with assists going to Jason Carleton, Vaughn Chambers and Eric Dreslinski with 2. The Oshawa Canadians visited Orono for a game on Monday, March 5th. Orono defeated Oshawa by a score of 4-0. The Tenannt Fuel Atoms got a strong team effort, Chris Langford played a good game in the Orono net. Eric Dreslinski scored 2 goals, Paul Henry and Steve Lycett got the singles with assists going to David Little, Steve Lycett, Keith Vey and John Cowan. On Saturday, March 10th the Lindsay Selects were in Orono to play the Tennant Fuel Atoms. Lindsay defeated Orono by a score of 3-0. The Tennant Fuel Atoms travelled to Oshawa to play the Oshawa minor Bruins on Sunday, March 11th. The Bruins won the game by a score of 2-0. The Orono boys didn't play well in either weekend game but a little hard work and a good team effort will bring them back to playing the kind of hockey they are capable of playing. Oh Friday, March 2nd Baltimore travelled to town to take, on the local Pee Wees. This was not to be Orono's night as they were defeated by a 6-1 score, The lone goal was scored by David Dawes assisted by Kevin Taylor and Paul Morton. On Saturday, March 3 Orono travelled to Bewdleÿ and came up with a far superior effort than the night before. This time Orono came out on top with a 4-1 score. Raymond Ripley picked up â hat trick with the other goal going to Steve Merrick. The assists went to David Dawes and Steve Merrick. On Thursday, March 8th the boys travelled to Baltimore for the last game of the season against this club. It was a typical tight game as has been the case many times throughout the season, but the Orono boys .could not hang on and at the seven minute marks of the third period Baltimore scored to win the game 3-2. The Orono gaols came from David Dawes and Gilbert Wood with assiste going to Steve Merrick and Raymond Ripley. A strong game was played by Ken Bailey on defence and Greg Stacey in goal. On Friday, March &th, Bewdley travelled to town to take on the local boys which turned out to be one of the better games played this season, The first goal of the game did not come until the last minute of the second period. This was scored unassisted by Paul Morton for the Orono gang. Orono then took a 2-0 lead early in the third with a good play by Doug Doxtater, assisted by David Dowes. David is playing some excellent hockey in his last few games. Again Greg Stacey played great in the Orono ngts. Hamiltons Insurance Pee Wees United County Atoms On March 7th the Atom team travelled to Baltimore to play the third game in a best of seven series and were defeated by a score of 3-2. Darren Lewis got the first goal of the game with the assist going to Blaine Bruton. Baltimore tied the game to end the first period and also got the go ahead goal early in the second period. Chris Richards tied the game when he put in a pass from Shawn Harbinson. Baltimore came back to put them ahead by one goal before the end of the second period. Orono had some good chances in the final period, but couldn't put it past the Baltimore goalie. On March 9th the Orono Atom team played host to Baltimore and came out on top with a 3-2 win. Jim Sharpe started the scoring when he put in a pass from Steven Barry. Baltimore came back to tie the game only to see Orono score the next two goals. Kevin Hartwig scored the second Orono goal with the assists going to Darren Lewis and Blaine Bruton. Blaine Bruton picked up Orono's third goal which proved to be the winner on a pass from Derek Anderson. Baltimore scored one more goal but Orono held them off for the rest- of the game. Allan Hall again played well in the Orono net. Tyke-Novice Hockey The Orono Novice team is now in a game was a fast skating, end to end type of round robin playoff with Newcastle and hockey which provided both teams with a • Baltimore. ORONO AND NEWCASTLE MIDGETS TIE i On Monday, March 12 the Newcastle Midgets were in Orono for an exhibition game. At the 725 mark of the first period Paul Reed snapped in the first goal of the game, passed up by Jeff Westbrook and Duane Major. A minute later Newcastle tied it up on a goal by Scott Foster, unassisted. Dan Wager put Newcastle ahead before the first period had ended, , passed along by Larry McKey. Just seconds into the second period saw Pete Kruhkert score to tie it up again, then one from Jim Moffatt and Paul Reed. Pajil Reddick got a beautiful slapshot away from the blue line, to pick the tdp corner and put Orono ahead. With just a mintue- left in this period, Norm Shearer got the game tied up again for Newcastle from Scott Foster. The third period almost went scoreless but with just three minutes remaining Marty Goschl popped one in, assisted by Larry MacKey and Mike Smith. Orono picked up a penalty but playing short-handed didn't stop them as Jim Moffatt slapped in Pete Kruhkert's rebound to end the game 4-4. Dan Barlow % played an excellent game in goal for Orono, as did Rich Robinson and Ross Stutt up front. Both teams are to be congratulated on their clean, fast end to end play, played as hockey should bç played. A pleasure to watch! Bob Zych was sharp in net when tested. 1 Orono defeated BowmanvilleB 5-1 to take the consulation medals. Orono opened the scoring with 15 seconds left in the 1st period when Steve Stec connected from Ed King. Bowmanville tied the score at 9:13 of tfie 2nd period as Scott Michelson connected for Bowmanville. But from there on it was all Orono. Depnis Klawitter put Ôrono ahead to stay with a shorthanded goal at the 5:59 mark of the 2nd period. Vance' Prue assisted on the play. 25.seconds later Djennis Klawitter scored his 2nd shdrthanded goal, this time with assists to Ken,Farrow and Steve Stec. Steve Graham scored Orono's 4th goal assisted by Kirk Carr and Steve Stec. Early in the 3rd period Steve Stec put the game on ice for Orono scroing on a nice play from Kirk Carr and Ed King. This was a super team effort with plenty of checking and skating from all. Bob Zych had a sensational game between the pipes. Saturday, March 10th Stutt's , Bantams Bantams dame within a goal of winning the A championship at the Port Hope tournament. tournament. In the 1st game Orono rolled over Keene 6-0. Bob Zych had an easy time posting the shutout as the team played well in front of him. Scott Prescott opened the scoring assisted by Ed King. Steve Wood scored the 2nd goal assisted by Ken Farrow and Kirk Carr, Vance Prue scored the 3rd assisted by Jeff Gray and Steve Stec. The 4th goal- was scored by Ken Farrow from Paul King. Jeff Gray scored the 5th gbal assisted by Steve Stec. Kirk Carr completed the scoring from Ken Farrow. In,,the 2nd game Orono defeated Cobourg A 6-3. Bob Zych came up with one of his best games of the season to back up an excellent team win. Kirk Carr had a trjie ha trick storing 3 connecting goals and also picking up.an aséist and Ken Farrow scored 2 goals and picked up 3 assists to account for most of the scoring. Steve Stec had the other goal, a really fine effort wit his team short handed. Other assists went to Steve Wood, Steve Stgc and Steve Graham., Orono lost .the championship game 'l-O 'to Port Perry, in one of their best games of the season. This was by far the bést game of the tournament with end to rend action with both goalies coming up with brilliant saves. The .game was scoreless until the last ? minutes of the ' game. A defensive error put the Port Perry centre. Bob Hortori on a breakaway which resulted in the only goal of the game. Congratulations to all the Orono Bantams for a fine tournament.
