Baker,' Q.G., M.P., ; , Opposition House Leader in Parliament, will be guest, speaker at the annual meeting of the Durham- Northuffiberland Progressive Conservative Association op. Wednesday, March 28th at Blackstock. The association will he electing its new executive for this important election year, and hear a report on recent events at Ottawa from the federal member for this area, Allan Lawrence. M.P. Walter Baker is well-known to television viewers of the House of Commons' Question Period as the seat-mate of Progressive Conservative leader Joe Clark. The Tory member was speaking at a conference of Kinsmen clubs in Bowmanville. He pointed out the decision for the election date, is up to the Prime Minister and he (Lawrence) was not one of his confidantes. Lawrence said the June 18th date madéa lot of sense for a number, of reasons. It was pointed out that Trudeau could hold off an election to the end of the year if he so wished but that a new parliament would have to sit in 1980. . .
