The basic materials now used by most growers are peat moss, vermiculate, and perlite. These materials can be used in a number of combinations according to the preference of the individual grower. Mixtures Mixtures can be varied depending on whether the seeds are very fine, or large enough to be handled individually. Other interesting tips given by Mr. Woolger for the home gar : dener included the addition of agricultural lime to the planting planting mixture to counteract the acidity of the peat moss, the use of fertilizers, and how to avoid damp-off, a serious problem if preventive measures measures are not taken in time. A' the conclusion of his talk Mr. Woolger answered questions on various gardening problems problems and his excellent presentation was obviously enjoyed by all present. This is a very interesting topic, and very often we have the misconception that they are hard to maintain, but with a little foresight it can be fun and also will give you much satisfaction. What are terrariums? terrariums? We are dealing with two categories of terrariums, the first one is the open concept of terrarium, and the second is the closed or bottle terrarium. The open terrariums is one of the easiest to maintain, since you are able to dig right in with your hands. You can clean them easily, and insert the growing medium right in the container and also the plants can be placed without too much difficulty. Most terrariums in this category "are fish tanks or made from redwood cedar and glazed with glass. Now these can have a complete covering by placing a sheet of heavy plastic or a sheet of glass over the top changing it to a closed environment. Closed terrariums are min- uature worlds, which have their own environment such as the recycling of moisture, and if probably made will require little or no maintenance. maintenance. For this type of terrarium all kinds of containers containers can be used such as water bottles, wine bottles, narrow top brandy snifters, and today we have a selection of plastic terrariums on the market especially for this purpose. When using a glass container, make sure that the glass is clear such as water bottles can sometimes be green, and plants will not grow to their best advantage and you will not be able to enjoy this type because the plants will appear as a blur. Terrariums can be used for creating your own Setting, such as a wood land setting, desert, rockery, coastline complete with water in a bowl or by using an oval mirror. You can use different kinds of figurines such as dwarfs, animals, moss, rocks, sand etc. Care of a Terrarium There is a bit of care to look after them, since the plants are living microcosm of nature, just like in naturfe where the elements look after this care. When plantings are made with cacti and succulents, succulents, they will require a location that will give them at least a few hours of light, especially if you have some of the flowering cacti types in your terrarium. For foliage Petition supports senior citizen development in Bowmanville Mr. Bonds of Bowmanville presented Town council on Monday with a 450 name petition in support of the Canadian Foresters proposed senior citizens development" on the site of the old Canning Factory in the Town.
