Perfect spring weather every day. Some of them were skiing down the ski slopes, then water skiing across a pond of water, some of them made it, others got a soaking. A very appreciative audience audience turned out on March 21 to Talent Night put on by the Kendal Sunday School. In fact the room was filled to capacity. The children gave us orchestra numbers, piano and organ solos, puppet plays, a skit entitled, "the operation", motion songs and even a trumpet solo. This was followed by cocoa, coffee, doughnuts and apples. On Sunday morning there was a fine Sunday School and Rev. A. Tizzard gave the children's story in poetry. Then Mrs. Tizzard sang beautifully, "Each step I take He leads me on". We were pleased to have visiting with us at the morning service Mr. and Mrs. Tizzard's daughter and son-in-law from Fort Vermilion on the Peace River Alberta. The scripture reading reading was St. John 19:25-42. The sermon was " Jobhn - ohe of the twelve". In verse 35, John said, I saw and bear witness and this witness is true. John was at the cross. He gives us a true record of the Son of God. He give us the account of seven miracles. He wrote the words of Jesus, "I am the bread of life, I am the light of the world, I am the way, I am the true vine, I am the good shepherd." The greatest challenge of Jesus was, "Beloved, love on another Love is the greatest of all". John recorded the greatest verse of the Bible, John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only on that whoever believes in him should, not perish but have eternal life." Jesus said, "I go to prepare a placé for you". If we love him we will be with him forever. John also gfbve us the bbok of Revelations. On Wednesday, March 21st the Kendal Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs, Lloyd Ransberry on Highway 115. Metric up-date food packaging Each time you visit your favourite supermarket you will probably notice many changes - metric changes, that is. Many food product package sizes have already undergone changes to metric sizing, while others are in the process of: changing, say the food specialists at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Many dairy products have now been converted to metric sizes. Cottage cheese and sour cream will commonly be seen in 250 gram (g), 500 g, or 1 kilogram (kg) size .Containers. Major metric sizes for ice cream containers are 500 millilitres (mL), 1 litre (L), 2 L and 4 L sizes. Butter is now 125 g, 250 g and 454 g sizes. In Ontario, conversion of fluid milk is expected to take place during the latter part of this year. All suger products have been converted. The 'most common sizes are 4J(g, 2 kg, 1 kg and 500 g. Other products now in metric packages ... include cereals, salt and many of the pasta and flour products. Bread, biscuits and some baking aids are presently presently undergoing changes. Prepackaged Prepackaged meats such as bacon, sausages and sliced meat will start to undergo metric conversion at the end of this year. The conversion of fresh fruits and vegetables will be phased in as weigh scales in the retail food industry are changed to metric. Scale ' conversion will start to take place during 1979. In many converted products products you will notice that the sizes are in easy metric units e.g. 250 g, 1L or 2L sizes. In most cases, this is a temn- orary «change and these products will be converted to easy metric sizes. Claims committee not representative of Village Mrs. Bonny Cunningham of the Newcastle Village area spoke to council on Monday evening stating that the committee to operate the Newcastle arena was not representative of the Village as a whole. She asked council to give further consideration in the appointment of the committee, seven members and two members of council. The seven appointees were elected at a public meeting in Newcastle last week and Mrs. Cunningham stated that the advertisement did not indicate indicate that the meeting was being held to elect members to the board of management. Cunningham said that all members on the board of management were directly involved in either minor hockey, town league hockey and one for the skating club. She said npt one member is to be appointed from the general public who have been sup- : porting the arena financially. All members of the board, she said, did have a form of a conflict of interest. Council did approve' the slate of members as approved by the public meeting being held in the Village. TELEPHONE 623-6555 JOHN MANUEL, C.G.A.
