Wednesda'y, March 30th, 1979-7 [ SPORTS ) Hamiltons Insurance Pee Wees March 15th - Orono 3, Newcastle 3 On Tuesday, March 15th the OMHA Pee Wees travelled to Newcastle for an exhibition game and tied the Newcastle team 3-3. The first period was scoreless with both goaltenders making some great saves. In the second period Orono took a 3 goal lead on goals scored by Greg Vey from Derek Mumford and Steve Sawyer, Randy Tennant from Rodger King and Glyn Jenkins from Randy Tennant. Geoff Green made some great saves with Steve Sawyer, Stephen Murree and Glyn Jenkins playing an excellent game. March 16th - Orono OMHA 7, Orono U:C. 1 On Monday evening the OMHA Pee Wees played the United Counties Pee Wees in an exhibition'game and came out 7-1 winners. OMHA goal scorers were: Murray Dennis from Robert French and Rodgér King; Greg Vey from Steve Sawyer; Greg Vey unassisted; Murray Dennis from Greg Vey; Steve Sawyer unassisted; Steve Sawyer from Murray Dennis; Rodger King from Steve Sawyer; The United Counties goal scorer was Mark Henry from David Dawes and Paul Morton. All the boys played well with special mention to Rodger King and Greg Vey. March 17th - Orono 4, Oshawa 2 On Saturday, March 17th the Hamilton Insurance Pee Wees played host to the Oshawa Red Wings from the Little N.H.L. This was a very hard hitting game with many end , to end rushes. Orono opened up the scoring in the first period with 2 goals and added another in the second period to end the period 3-0. In the third period Oshawa came out flying to get a fast goal only to have Orono score less than a minute later. With 5 minutes left Oshawa scored again to end the game Orono 4 and, Oshawa 2. Paul Rosseau playing only his second game in net played 2 fine periods in goal and made some excellent saves. Chris Langford played shutout hockey forithe other period. Orono goal scorers were: Mike Ball 1 from Kenny Bailey; Derek Mumford from Greg Vey and Robert French; Handy Tennant unassisted; Randy Tennant from Derek Mumford. Special mention to Randy Tennant, Derek Mumford and Kenny Bailey for an excellent game. March 19th - Orono 2, Colborne 3 On Monday morning, March 19th the Orono OMHA Pee Wees travelled to South River for the Little NHL Tournament. In the first game the boys came up against Colborne and went down to defeat 3-2 in overtime. The local boys had many fine opportunities to win this game but could not find the range. Paul Rosseau played an excellent game in the nets and deserved better. Goal scorers were: Greg Vey from Robert French; Greg Vey unassisted. Special mention to Greg Vey and Steve Sawyer for a fine game. In the second game the local boys went down to defeat 4-0 and so ended their chances to advance. This was a very rough game with both teams forgetting all about hockey and the referees forgetting what they were on the ice for which spoiled what could have been an exciting game. An excellent game was played by Chris Langford in net and special mention going to Glyn Jenkins, Randy Tennant and Kenny Bailey. March 24th - Orono 5, Colborne 1 On Saturday evening Orono played host to Colborne in an exhibition game. This was the same team Orono met in their first game of the Little NHL Tournament and lost to in overtime. The local boys came out flying with some heavy hitting to make amends for their previous loss and it paid off. Orono scored with 2 minutes remaining in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. In the second they scored 2 more with Colborne scoring their lone goal of the night. Orono then scored 2 more in the third to end the game 5-1. Goal scorers were: Mike Ball from Derek Mumford and Robert French; Mike Ball unassisted; Mike Ball unassisted; Greg Vey from Derek Mumford and Robert French; Derek Mumford from Steve Sawyer and Greg Vey. Chris Langford played an excellent game in net with some super saves. Special mention for an excellent effort to Mike Ball with a hat trick and to Derek Mumford and Stephen Murree.
