Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, April 18th, 1979 Impressive official opening at new Orono arena complex The official opening ceremonies ceremonies and program of events at the Orono Arena- and Community Centre complex complex on Saturday evening were most impressive. Over four hundred were in attend-, ance and this attendance represented a sporting community community and interest dating back to the mid 1940s as well as the present era. Those in attendance not, only witnessed the impressive opening ceremonies and dedication dedication but were also treated with a program of hockey by the former Orono Orphans, skating by members of the 1978-79 Orono Skating Club and members of the 'first Skating Club formed in Qroho some 32 years ago. The climax of the evening was in the form of a dance held in the new Community Centre complex with music provided by Bev Smith and his orchestra. The fact that the former Orono Orphans as well as members of the early Orono Skating Club held a reunion in connection with the official* opening added a much wider scope of interest for the evening.
