The redesignation was placed before before council by the Regional Planning Committee. Regional Regional council voted 18 to 10 to. take no action on the recom-. mendation. 1 The issue came before the Regional Planning Department Department as a result of a recent request from the Town of Newcastle council asking that a redesignation of the lands " for the mobile home proposal be undertaken by thé Êegioh. The request from the Town of Newcastle council was supported supported by all members of- council with the exception of Mayor Rickard. Last Wednesday at the Regional council meeting Mayor Rickard spoke against the redesignation of the land for the mobile home park. Later in the week in speaking with Counc. Hobbs of the town of Newcastle council he said the Town was losing out in that the development development was not given the go-ahead by the Region. He said the development would pay more taxes than would the Darlington Generating Station when completed. Hobbs also noted that the council of the former Township Township of Clarke had given their approval to the proposal and that three individual councils over the past five and a half years for the Town of Newcastle had also voted approval for the development. development. Lawrence 21,971 Wilson 11.066 McLaughlin 8,531 Martella 380 Platt 29 Eighty-one percent of the voters in the riding cast thèir ballot which surpassed the 77 percent in the 1974 election. The new riding had a total of 51,705 voters compared to 38,860 voters in the old riding in 1974: . In the Orono polls Lawrence Lawrence gained 632. votes to Wilsons 352 and McLaughlins 218. This compared in 1974 with Lawrence polling 552 votes, Beckett, liberal 417 and Walker NDP197. - In Tuesdays election Lawrence Lawrence received 52.5 percent of the ballots cast compared to 43.3 percent of those cast in the 1974 election. Wilson gained about 26 percent of the vote compared to Beckett, liberal, 38.3 percent in the 1974 election. The NDP vote on Tuesday was a little over 20 percent compared to 18.4 percent in the 74 election. The afternoon will begin with a leisurely walk to different areas around the Ganaraska Forest Centre where these plants may be found. Discussion of the different types of edible plants, how to identify them and where to look for them is expected to be enjoyable as ..well as informative.
