Wednesday, May 30th, 1979 SPORTS ) Eagles Lose to Little Britain ' On Sunday, May 27th, in Kendal, the Eagles went down to their first defeat of the year as the Little Britain Generals defeated them by a 7-1 score. Dan Miller pitched a strong game for Little Britain allowing only three Eagles hits. Collecting hits for Kendal were Bill Robinson, Pete Henderson and J.R. Robinson. Kendal got off to a shaky start allowing four Little Britain runs in the first inning on only three hits and three Kendal errors but Bill Bickle settled down to pitch a strong game allowing a total of nine hits while striking out six batters. Last Sunday at toe Orono Park and during a rain storm the Orono Merchants took à 13-1 victory over toe Oshawa entry and should have blanketed their opponents holding them scoreless until toe last frame of the game. Orono Soccer On Wednesday, May 24th, the Junior Soccer team of Orono met the Flying Dutchmen in their season opener at Bowmanville. After a scoreless first half, Orono finally took control in the second half. Better teamwork and some individual skills by Mike Zeiger, fjfially had the team rolling, Peter Knikker opened the scoring, who had two goals for the game, followed by Doug Dupe and Duffy Hamre. Although the Flying Dutchmen had good scoring chances, Alan Mathwich in the Orono goal, recorded his first shut-out of the season with 1 outstanding goaltending. goaltending. ARBITRATION PANEL TO MEET JUNE 7th An arbitration panel will meet on June 7th to consider the impasse in salary negotiations between the Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education and secondary teachers as to salary negotiations. Both sides in the negotiations have agreed to binding arbitration and it is expected that a decision will be handed down sometime in the month of June.
