* 10-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, June 13th, 1979 Kendal As the camel kneels before his master to have him remove his burden at the end ' of day v so kneel each night and let the Master take your burden. *,'Cast , your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you." . Psalm 55:22. , After living at their home ' north of Kendal for thirty-five years Mr. and Mrs. Art Low • decided to retire and move into Orono. Their sale was on Saturday, June 16th, 1979. The day was perfect with a temperature of 28 degrees Celcius or 82 degrees fahren- heit so there was a very large ' attendance. Many antiques and curios were sold that Art had collected from far away places. One was like a huge carved butcher knife borad at the tip, used by southern natives for cutting sugar cane. They would grasp the handle with both hands and swing with all their might cutting a swatch of sugar cane. This was' called "a matchete from Cuba. Sunday Service at Kendal Church was sorj of a triple, crown event. It was the annual parade of the District ?x Orangemen to the service including some of the higher up officials ffom a distance. The Kendal L.O.L. fife and drum band led, the parade followed by thé Kendal and District Orangemen and the True Blue ladies lodge of Bethany. The Brownie Troop of Kendal were led by their leaders Mrs. Dora MacDonald MacDonald and Miss Gale Young- man. Mr. Wayne Lowery of Scarborough led the service in the call to worship while Major John Clarke of New- tonville read the scripture reading Deuteronomy 31:1-13. 1 Then ,we had a baptismal service. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Overy of Oshawa (nee Debbie Young- man) was baptised Stephenie Lynn Overy by Rev. A. Tizzard. A beautiful solo entitled, "Jesus my vision, Jesus my King", was sung by Mrs. A. ; Tizzard. Then the Sunday | School and the Brownie Troup weiÿ to their classes. Rev. A. Tizzard said that this Sunday meant different things to different people. To some it was Father's Day, to some it was Orangemen's Day and to some it was Baptism Day. However we all come to worship God on this day for it is God's Day. Our thoughts reach out to that which is eternal. We hope that ■ generations yet to come will sing, "Faith of our Fathers". . The Moses called unto Joshua and said, "Be strong and of good courage, fear not for the Lord your God is with thee, he will not fail thee". ! During the past week the , two leaders met in Ottawa, Trudeau the outgoing Prime Minister met Clarke the incoming Prime Minister. The advice that Trudeau gave Clark will be forgotten. The advice that Moses gave Joshua has stood 2,000 years. The early missionairies who came to this land to proclaim the message of God, the message of love, peace and goodwill were especially chosen because of their ♦ strengtlj and courage. Joshua when confronted with a chal- : lenge said, "As for me'and tny house, we will serve the Lord". Sometimes we say of News the good Samaritan. Oh it was easy for him to give he was wealthy. When Jesus was stripped of everything he gave his life. Let us exercise our faith. The faith of our fathers. Moses was a great deliverer. We are following a great deliverer who will lead us to a land where there is no more death. The Motto - Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6. The roll call was, "I like the picture of this child (or children) because - The members had each brought the picture of a child (or a group) that they liked. One picture that was. especially interesting was of Robt. Henderson when a wee laddie with his cap on the side of his head and his baseball bat and glove ready for action. The ten principles were read and the tenth one was: He shall be brought up in a spirit of understanding so that his energy and talents shall be devoted to the service of his fellow man. This means that parents and teachers must train a child to be unselfish. Children are all naturally selfish. No one likes a selfish child or adult. We have he'ard of the new teacher who w,ent to board with a • large family. At breakfast the large milk pitcher was at his place so he went to pour some on his porridge. The boy beside him said, "Hold it! Dad pours first". Children often become discouraged. discouraged. "Praise him for a job well done".
