Eagles defeat Port Hope On Sunday, July 29th the Kendal Eagles ended their 1979 regular season on a winning note by defeating thé Port Hope 1 Flyers 4-3. This was the fourth win in a row ■ for. the Eagles and enabled them -to qualify , for the Little Britain Tournament this coming weekend (August 3rd to August 6th). Ralph Kennedy had an excellent ' game for Kendal as he pitched nine strong innings allowing ten hits and one earned run and he also hit a game winning 1 homerun in the eighth inning. Kennedy , and John Robinson led the Eagles with two hits each while single hits went to Bill 1 Robinson, Jerry Thompson, Peter Henderson, Henderson, Fraser Wallace and Eric Moore. The final score was 7-2 for ! Willowdale, an Oshawa based team that showed some excellent ball control and j speed; The first 35 minutes of the game was I scoreless and mainly to the alert play of Blaine Bruton in Orono goal. Five minutes into the second half Robert Snoek's hard work finally paid off as he put Orono ahead by one goal with an excellent shot from fifteen yards out. Willowdale then overpowered overpowered Orono with five unanswered goals until Scott Alldyead on a penalty shot picked the top right hand corner of the Willowdale net to bring Orono within three goals of tying the game. Orono didn't have the steam to come back however and Willowdale put two more between Orono's posts. ' : Merchants lose to league leading trend setters in 9th On Monday, July 30th the Orono Merchants travelled to Markham to play the league leading Markham Trend Setters who have lost but one game all year. The Merchants came up with their best effort of the season and came closer to upsetting the Trend Setters only to lose in the 9th inning by a score of 11-12. Leading the offense for the Merchants were Denis 1 Mumford with 4 hits and Bob Kelnian and ( 1 Bob Faulkner with 3 apiece. These fees and charges do not include activities activities at the Orono or Newcastle Village Are'na. ,'The largest increase was •r in fees for figure skating with beginner fees jumping to $40.00 from $25.00, juniors up to $50.00 from $35.00, intermediate fees' to $70.00 from $50.00 and seniors to $80.00 from $60.00. Recreation hookey will remain remain the same at $50.00. Adult swimming under the jurisdiction of the Tovtn will increase to $23.00 up from $18.00. Admission to the Western apd Country Jamboree Jamboree will increase to $2.50 for adults and 75c for the children. Prime Time Ice charges have increased to $38.00 an hour up from $35.00.
