Asks fluoridization Bowmanville water The Town council on Monday Monday called on a report from the Town Manager, Alex Guiler, as to fluoridization of water for the Town of Bowmanville. A request, for fluoridization of the water supply from Lake Ontario to Bowmanville has been made by the Bowmanville Jaycees. Counc. Hobbs pointed out that water supply in the Region was under the jurisdiction jurisdiction of the Region and not the Town of Newcastle. He. said council could suggest to the Region that such be done in Bowmanville but he said he yas giving notice that he WQuld be seeking a refer- re'ndum on the matter before anything of such a nature was done. He also said he did not agree with a letter from Sam Cureatz that an application be sent to the Minister of Health. He said it is a matter for the Region to consider. Councs. Holliday and Cowman Cowman moved that the matter be referred to the Town Manager for a report. A HOAX Dr. Angus Blair, a Bow- mariville dentist, sitting in the audience at council meeting, told the Times that fluoridization fluoridization is nothing more than a 'hoax' and that he would like to speak to council on the matter before they took gn^ action. * In the letter to council from the Jaycees it was pointed out that fluouridization of the water supply would cost no more than 12 cents per person. It was also pointed out that water is so treated in Bay Ridges, Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa. % New skilled trades building at Durham Because of an increasing demand for workers in the skilled trades, Durham College, College, Oshawa wil shortly open a new skilled trades building addition which will specifically specifically accommodate welding and;machine shop facilities.
