Because of Orono's standing in the league they had a bye for the first round played earlier in the week, , Zion Park was the first team Orono played, and Orono won by a score of 2-1. The first half of the game ended with Zion ahead 1-0 but, Orono managed to pull themselves themselves together in the second half and scored two unanswered unanswered goals. The first goal was scored on a trickling sharp angled shot from Rick Pierik. The second goal was John Cowans first of the year. He scored on a high shot from about twenty feet out. The win against Zion put Orono in a final matchup with Willow- dale, a team that had twice beaten Orono by a score of 7-2 and 7-0. After a trip to Macdonalds Orono was refueled and ready for any team, but in the first half Willowdale managed to score two goals. The second half was scoreless, however Orono showing some excellent excellent ball handling on the forward line Willowdale had a few anxious moments. Superb goal tending by Blaine Bruton who incidently returned twice during the game after being taken off injured, and strong defensive work by Robert Snoek, Scott Alldread, Gil Wood and Sean and Steven Barry just to name a few kept Willowdale off the score sheet iri the second half. The final score was 2-0 for Willowdale. • Orono shôuld 1 consider themselves fortunate to be represented by a group of boys as were members of this team. They stuck together arid worked hard, showing continued improvement throughout the season. Their final position was second but if effort was a measure of success then first was the only position open to these youngsters.
