The donation donation has been made by Mr. and Mrs. Bullen of Toronto who own the property in the north-east of the former Township of Clarke. Sauriol said it was a most, generous donation and that it was a growing trend with those interested in conservation. conservation. Sauriol also said the Nature Conservancy was working closely with Conservation Conservation Authorities and referred referred to a Leskard property purchase made through the joint efforts of the Ganaraska Conservation Authority and the Nature Conservancy. Roy Forrester, chairman of the Ganaraska Authority, also termed, the gift a most, generous gesture on the part of the Bullens who have certainly shown their interest in conservation. He said the property was a source area for the Ganaraska River with the major portion of the forested area being mixed hardwoods. The donation, he said, became more Significant Significant in that the Ganaraska does own property adjacent to the west, east and north. It was pointed out by the chairman that with the Bullen donation 685 acres of land had been added directly to the Ganaraska Forest in the past two and a half year. He said the total holdings by the Authority is nearing ,11,000 acres. Last Week Sauriol, Forrester Forrester and Ganaraska staff met to start plans for the recognition of the gift and also to prepare plans for the dedication of the 20 acre Leskard property that has been purchased jointly by the Nature Conservancy and the Ganaraska. The property is to be dedicated in recognition of A,H. Richardson, A.S. Barnes and J.D, Thomas who pioneered pioneered the Conservation program program in the Province of Ontario and were directly involved in the formation', of the Ganaraska. In the Leskard purchase the Nature Conservancy was instrumental instrumental in gaining financial financial support from 21 of the 39 Conservation Authorities in Ontario. Sauriol states this is the first time other Conservation Authorities have so supported such, a joint project. The recognition of the Bullen gift and the dedication of the Leskard property is to take place early in 1980. Both Sauriol and Forrester point to thé fact that the Leskard purchase is the first such purchase by the Gan-, araska in the headwater area of the Wilmot Creek, and both feel it is a step in the right direction to maintain the quality and flow of the stream through to Lake Ontario. Clarke ratepayers need more support The newly formed Clarke Ratepayer's Association met on Monday night in. the Newtonville Public School and after a round of discussion discussion decided they needed greater interest and attendance attendance to their meetings in order to arouse the concerns of elected officials. Another meeting has been called for November 5th with all present on Monday to bring along a neighbour or two. It is also the intention of the Association to have Mayor Mayor Rickard, Councs. Barr and Clarke present along with the Towiî Treasurer, Klass De- Groot. The executive of the new Association had expected# a large turn-out for the meeting and that residents would be in attendance from the Kendal and Orono area. Judging from the response of a telephone campaign and door ianmoffat Graduates Ian William Moffat, son of John and Berniece Moffat of Orono, graduated September 29th, 1979 from The Toronto Institute of Medical Technology Technology as a Registered Tech nologist in Radiography. He is now employed in the Radiological Department at,. Peterborough Civic Hospital, Peterborough, Ontario. to door canvassing the organization organization had rented the main auditorium at the school rather than a classroom. Some twenty were present for the meeting and it was pointed out that such a small group would have little impact impact on elected officials. The main complaint throughout the meeting was high taxes and few services. A farmer stated that his taxes had risen by eighty percent in 1979. Andy Van Bodegom said, "You are not a property owner anymore - you just pay protection money". At one point it was stated that police service and protection protection had dropped since the takeover by Regional police. This caused one in attendance to quip that they did have, better police protection . . . there are now two in every cruiser. It was also stated that government exists on the stupidity of the people it serves. Terry Ker said the group had to pinpoint its objections, get strength in numbers and to generate a keen interest in the organization. Counc. Barr who was in attendance at the meeting suggested that the organization organization should invite all members members of council to their next meeting as they all Had a say in decisions being made. He pointed out that Ward Three did set the fate of Ward three councillors but that others did vote in council on issues thab affected Ward Three. He said the first step should be to discuss thé issues with the Town of Newcastle Council and staff.
