Interment Bowmanville Cemetery 31, ac. approves marsh ' purchase The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority approved approved the purchase of 42 acres of marsh land between Port Hope and Cobourg on the shores of Lake Ontario known as Carr's Marsh. The purchase purchase is a joint effort between the Conservation Authority and the Willow Beach Naturalists Naturalists of Port Hope. The Willow Beach Naturalists Naturalists have agreed to fund thirty-five percent of the $21,000 purchase with the Conservation Authority through provincial grants Covering the remaining sixty- five percent of the purchase price. The Authority has made an application to the Ministry for special funding for the project above the approved budget for 1979. The Minister is to consider the application during a year-end review of the budget. The Willow Beach Naturalists Naturalists have also agreed to cov.er any carrying Charges which may exist up to a period of a year if provincial funds are not available through 1979 grants. The Carr's Marsh property has been considered for purchase by the Authority for a period of two and a half years and approval has been received from the Ministry for a total marsh purchase in the area of some 150 acres, The Authority is also considering considering lakeshore property in Bewdley on Rice Lake where local assistance has been offered in the purchase. The full Authority meeting on Thursday evening also approved a maximum expenditure expenditure of $10,000 from the 1980 budget to be applied i against road improvements to the Forest Centre in Hope Township. The cost of the $70,000 improvement is to be shared by the Town of Newcastle, the Township of Hope and the Authority.
