January 14th - Orono 4, Beaverton 8 Beaverton travelled to Orono Monday Monday evening and for the first two periods the local boys stood around and watched as Beaverton scored six goals to Orono's Green had not. been sharp in the nets for the Orono bantams. This was the last game of the schedule for Orono and playoffs are just around the corner. Orono Kinsmen Bantams Baltimore Bantams defeated Orono Kinsmen 5-3 Friday, Jan. ljth in Orono. Orono started the scoring off at 13:34 of the first period with a great goal by Steven Clynes assisted by Don Doxtater, but Baltimore came back with two goals, to end the first period leading 2-1. Orono tied the game with a goal by Don Doxtater assisted by Jeff Dillon. With just under'7 minutes left in the second period Baltimore took the lead again, Orono continued to play a strong game and tied the game with a shot by Don Doxtater from outside the blue line placing it into the corner of the net. The game remained tied until the last 3:25 of the third period when Baltimore again took the lead. With a minute left to play Orono pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie the game but unable to keep the play in Baltimore's end with 8 seconds left in the game Baltimore scored their fifth goal. A great effort Orono, and a good game. Orono hosted Baltimore on Friday night and tied the game 1-1. Baltimore opened the scoring in the first period. Jeff Vanhaverbeke scored for Orono, assisted by Peter Armstrong on the second. All boys played a superb game. A great team effort was shown. Keep up the good work. Next home game Friday, January 18th at 6:30 p.m. * United Counties Hockey On Friday, January 11th the Camsport atoms hosted Baltimore 2. This was a rematch between these two teams. Orono came up with a solid team effort and beat Baltimore by a 4-2 score. Goals scored by: Darren Lewis 2 goals,' Shawn Bailey 1 goal, 1 assist'and Robert Snoek 1 goal, 2 assists. Other assists going to Brjpn Hill and Darren Dennis. On Saturday, January 12th the Camsport atoms travelled to Bewdley for a league game. This was a well played game, with good action at both ends. Orono came up a little flat in this game, as they played the night before. Orono came away with a 3-3* tie. Midgets The Midgets travelled to Newcastle for a league game on Tuesday, January 8th and returned home defeated. Newcastle Newcastle got two unanswered goals in the first period. The second period got Orono on the scoreboard. William Van Seggelen opened the scoring for Orono, tipping in a rebound from Dennis Klawitter and Ken Farrow. Seconds later Dennis Klawitter scored from Ken Farrow to tie it up. Newcastle scored again to take a short lived lead. Rhys Jenkins tied it up again, assists going to Paul Reed and Pete Krukkert. Newcastle then got two more before Pete Krukkert did the job, connecting with Paul Reed and Duane Major to end the second period. Orono v-.uildri'i get any goals in the third while Newcastle pounded in three to end the game in their favour, eight to four. ■ The last* league game of thjs season was played in Orono on Monday night against Pickering. The first period was scoreless and Pickering shot ahead with two, early in the second. Dennis Klawitter scored from deep in the corner, on an odd goal, from Ken Farrow and Rhys Jenkins, to get the Orono boys on the board. Steve Wood tied it up, with just a few seconds left in the second period, dribbling one in from Paul Reed and Pete Krukkert. Early in the third period Pickering went up by one and it took nearly the remainder of the third period before Duane Major tied it up from Pete Krukkert and Paul Reed. Unfortunately, Unfortunately, Pickering scored with just 21 seconds left to take the win, 4-3. Dutch Oven Bantams In Newcastle Wednesday, January 2, 1980, Newcastle outplayed Orono, throughout most of the game, although Orono played a hard/ game they only managed one goal scored by Dop Doxtater and they were unable to hold Newcastle off.
