In a report to the committee it was pointed out that it had , cost the Town an amount of $6,348.72 to provide the meter maid service in Orono and Newcastle. On the average there were six tickets given out weekly with one of the six being for parking over the limit of two hours. The meter maids worked a period of .24 hours in the two centres each week. Hobbs stated the problem was that no one wanted parking meters. "They want a service with someone else paying for it," he said. "I can support parking meters but cannot , justify the expenditure for a meter maid for only six tickets a week and no revenue," he said. ■ Mayor Rickard moved that the matter be referred back to the by-law enforcement officer , and acting Town Manager who would meet with the respective Chamber of Commerce to discuss the matter further. The motion yvas not seconded. Counc. Barr pointed out there was no problem with parking in Newcastle and that he only spoke for such service in Orono.
