Newcastle man dies in collision A resident of R.R. 2 Newcastle and two Oshawa residents were killed early Saturday morning in a head- on collision for two cars on the Taunton Road. A further two Oshawa residents are patients patients in the Oshawa General Hospital with major injuries as a result of the accident. Dead are Daniel Allin, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Allin of R.R. 2, Newcastle, the driver of one vehicle, Victor Banks, 30 of 130 Taunton Road West, the driver of the second vehicle and Doreen' Hager- man, 34 of 128 Taunton Road West, a passenger in the Banks car. The two injured persons were Peter Van Eston, Oshawa and Michael Banks, Oshawa. According to police a 1974 Pontiac driven by,Allin vas eastbound at about 2.25 a.m. Saturday morning when it collided on the Taunton Road with a 1970 Cadillac driven by Victor Banks. The Newcastle fire department was called to cut the victims from the two vehicles. According to «police one of the vehicles strayed over the centre line çf the road causing the head-on collision. Jeff DeJonge took the Sunday morning church ser- « vice at the Orono Cub camp on May 31st.. Looking for work for Mr. John G. Anderson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Adult Services, Ministry* of Community and Social Services, Services, was the guest speaker at the Regional Community Care Night held in Port Perry on Wednesday, June 11th. Mr. Anderson spoke to his audience audience of over 100 about Ministry plans for home support. He noted that local forumsfor input from service providers had already been held and that the Ministry would be producing a discussion discussion paper in the near future. The grotip was assured that there would always be a role for volunteers in home support support activities. Although the main thrust of Community Care has been towards support support for the elderly, Anderson encouraged Community Care to consider expansion of its service to provide further assitance to other groups in need of home support, such as .physically handicapped adults. An annual service report distributed at the meeting indicated that Community Care had 2,1)87 clients as of March 31st, 1980. I,9i4 of these 'clients are seniors. In the last year 33,636 tasks were performed by .Community Care volunteers throughout Durham Region.
