Developers have, in the past, been critical of the use of the lot levies by the Region and have said they suspected they were being used for purposes other than originally intended. intended. The Region collected $5,159,670 in lot levies in 1979. Due to a reduction in building in the Region this year lot levies are expected to be down by two million dollars. The $590 reduction : will have an effect in future years,by over 20 percent. Band concerts to assist United Way Two popular local bands will combine^ forces to stage a concert Saturday, October 25th at 8:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, 133 Simcoe Street South in Osh- awa to false funds for the United Way. The Temple Band of the, Salvation Army will play popular concert music and will be conducted by Glenn Ward. For the first part bf the program, both bands will be on stage and will play alternately. For the second part of the program, following intermission, intermission, they will play in combination and the numbers to , be performed include the march - "Pressing Onward"; a novelty number - "When the Saints .Come Marching In"; Elgar's famous "Nimrod", and Percy Fletcher's "Spirits of Pageantry". The Oshawa Civic Band,, under the direction of George Quick, will play several concert favourites; including the Basin Street Blues featuring featuring Gordon Coupland on the trumpet. The Master of Ceremonies will be Wally Parnell. Tickets are available from the Salvation Salvation Army, and the United Way office, 52 Simcoe Street South in Oshawa. The cost of $2.50 per person, with children children under 13 admitted free of charge. Admission may also je paid at the door the evening of the concert.
