Ministry field checks indicate indicate that during the three-day season in'management units 72 and 103 (south of Lindsay and Peterborough), approximately approximately one out of every 10 hunters was successful in getting a deer. There were fewér hunters checked in the field in these units in 1980 (530) than in 1979 (699). However our field checks indicate more deer were harvested in 1980. The final harvest results will be derived by combining the information from the field checks, deer jaws and hides turned in to district offices, mail surveys and telephone interviews. The deer hunt ran very smoothly with few trespass complaints. A few charges were laid for failure to comply with the new 1980 anterless drier regulations. However violations were relatively relatively rare and this year's hunters are to be commended for their co-operation and sportsmanship.
