i-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 26th, 1980 United Counties Bantams V, United Counties Pee Wees On November 7th Orono no. 2 Pee Wees played an exhibition game against Newcastle No. 1. Newcastle skated away with a 6-0 win. ' On November 14th Orôno No. 2 played their first league game against Newcastle No. 2. Orono were skating well and with a good team effort beat Newcastle 6-i. Goals .scored by Darren Lewis 3, Derek Henry 2, Sean Berry 1, assists to Darren Lewis 2, Chris Richards 3, Rodney Storsbergen l, Brad Peters 1. Special mention to Allan Hall for playing an excellent game in net. I.O.O.F. No. 1 Pee Wees Orono hosted Bewdleÿ being defeated defeated 3-0. Bewdley outskated and dominated the game, Orono had some gréât scoring opportunities but couldn't buy a goal. Jason Cartetdn did an excellent job between the pipes and kept Orono in the game. Robert Kelpac played well showing great improvement. Keep up the good work Robert, Come on guys, skate. You can do it. Parents: Something to Think About. Orono No. 1 hosted Orono 2 Sunday evening defeating them 3-2. Mark Sargent opened the scoring for Orono 1 assisted by Kevin Hartwig and Mike Lane. Mark scored again assisted by Kevin. Then Darren Lewis scored for no. 2, assist going to Rodney Storsbergen. Kevin Hartwig assisted by Robbie Jerome scored making it 3-1, end of the first period. The second period remained scoreless scoreless with both teams having scoring opportunities. Late in the third Chris Richards of Orono 2 assisted by Darren Lewis and Rodney Storsbergen popped one in, final scorie 3-2. Special mention to Mark Sargent, Mike Lane, (Brian Souch. A great team effort paid Off. Keep up the good work boys! Rough ley Insurance Novice Orono Novice defeated Baltimore 3-1, breaking Baltimore's 5 straight wins. Gary Thajer opened the scoring for Orono in the first period unassisted. Baltimore scored in the second. Baltimore outshot Orono 22-15. Third period saw some good .end to end plays. Gary Thajer scored again making it 2-1. Anthony Webb assisted by Gary Thajer made it 3-1. Mike Goodmurphy did an excellent job between the pipes stopping 22 shots and one penalty shot. Todd Gray and Blaine Souch played well pn defense. A great team effort. • On Friday, Orono made a come back from beiijig down 5-1 at the end of the second period against Port Hope No. 1, to Win the game 6-5. What a game. Port Hope dominated the first and second periods scomg five goals. Gary Thajer scored one in the first period unassisted. Things < looked grim for Orono, being down 5-1, but Todd /Gray, Anthony Webb and Gary Thajer pulled the game out to a win. Gary Thajër scored three goals in the third, Todd Gray scored two, assists going to Anthony AYebb. Thajer had his second hat trick of the season, good work boys. Keep that puck rolling. Tennant Fuel Atoms t Newcaste 6, Orono 4 On Thursday, November 20th the •O.M.H.A. Tennant Fuel Atoms travelled to Newcastle and went down to defeat by the score of 6-4. Orono opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Kevin Mumford assisted by Brian Goodwin, Newcastle came baclç to tie the game 1-1 on a goal by Mike Meyers. In the second period Newcastle scored four in a row to go ahead Scoring for Newcastle were: Willy McGarvey (2), Darryl Burke and Jody Breen. Orono then struck for two in 18 seconds to close the gap to 5-3, scoring for Orono were Brent Hutton, assisted by ■ Todd Hutton and Kevin Mumford, assisted by Brent Hutton. In the third period the Orono boys kept the pressure on and only somç gleat goaltending by Eric Jensen kept the boys from tieing the game. With 3:44 left in the game Derek Rogers put Newcastle ahead 6-3, only to have Orono come back with one by. Todd Thertell assisted by Brent Hutton _ to end the game Newcastle 6 and Orono 4. Special mention to Brian Hill and Mark V Vanderheyden. Orono 4, Manvers 2 On Saturday evening in the Orono arena the Tennant Fuel Atoms bounced back with a 4-2 win over Manvers. Orono scored the only goal of the first period to go ahead 1-0 on a goal by Brent Hutton assisted by Laurens Kaldeway and Patrick Woods. In ?he second period Brent Hutton with an unassisted effort put the local boys up 2-0 only to see Manvers come right back and make it 2-1 on a goal by David Glasberger. In the third period David Bailey put Orono ahead 3-1 with assists going to Kevin Mumford and Brian Hill, less than a minute later Manvers came right back to make it 3-2 on a goal by David Glasberger, his second of the game. David Bailey then popped in his second of the night with assists going to " Brian Hill; and Jan Vanderheyden to end the game Orono 4, Mdnvers 2. Pee Wees Monday, November 24, 1980, saw Ops at Orono. In a hard fought battle, Ops came out the victors by a score of 1-0. The ' Matthews and Hill Pee Wees are playing much improved hockey. On Friday, November 21, 1980 the Orono Kinsmen Bantams played at home with Port Hope as thèir competition. The game from a fans point of view was very entertaining wjth both clubs see-sawing back and forth, but Port Hope did come out the winner 4-3. Goal scorers for the Orono team were Stephen Murree with 2 goals unassisted and Stephen Merrick with l goal assisted by Robert French. The next game to be played this Friday, November 28th, 9:30 am., an exhibtion game with Bowmanville as ' the opposition. As usual Omemee played a fast, tough game and made the local boys work for their win. For the second time Orono built up a good lead and then went into a tailspin watching Omemee score two quick goals, but they hung on for the win. John Finn, Omèmee's goalie played a great game stopping the local boys time and time again.
