Orono Weekly Times; Wednesday, December 17th, 1980-5 Council-library hold information meeting The Town of Newcastle council and the Newcastle Library Board met in an information meeting last week when the Board outlined their concerns for the future as well as a proposed budget for the service in the Town of Newcastle. In speaking with William Montgomery, chairman of the Library Board, following the meeting, he said the board would like to be able to re-instate library hours in the three libraries, Bowmanville, Orono and Newcastle, back to what they had been prior to the financial cut-back by Town council in 1980. He also said in their presentation and to a view in serving the public the board would like to add one professional professional library staff member member to the Bowmanville staff so as to provide research and reference guidance at the. branch. He also said the board would like to expand Children's services and pro-. grams throughout the three branches and as well acid needed audio-visual 'equipment. 'equipment. Montgomèry stated the board is proposing a financial grant from the Town of $214,000 which compares with $140,000 from the Town in 1980. The Town grant in 1980 was cut some $25,000 from that of 1979 when the library board received $165,000 from the Town of Newcastle. Montgomery said the cutback cutback in hours of opération had affected all libraries with-the greatest effect being felt .in Orono where circulation has dropped considerably. He said there had been some drop in circulation in Bowmanville Bowmanville but it was very minimal. The outcome of the meeting Will not be known until such time as the Town council strikes their 1980 budget.
