The new water and sewage rates in Oshawa have inc reased charged by 20.5 percent. percent. It has been pointed out that increases in charges were 11 p.c. required to balance costs against revenues for the water and sewer systems in the Region. Revenues for the Regional system have dropped due to a reduction in lot levy charges to developers, and as well due to plant closings and some conservation of use by local home onwers. Other reasons cited for the big increase include overexpenditures overexpenditures by the Region on works to provide development. development. Durham Region now has services in ground to accommodate a further 114,000 people.
