Christmas General Meeting With tables and the Main Hall at Orono United Church decorated in a Christmas theme, about 25 persons enjoyed a noon pot-luck meal on Thursday, December 11th. This was followed by carol singing, with Mrs. B. Touch- burn as pianist. The meeting was opened with President, Mrs. 0. Challice reading a poem, "Trice Christmas" and a reading, "No Excuse Sunday.'" Sunday.'" A surprise was in store for three ladies, in the persons of Mrs. Velma Armstrong, Armstrong, Mrs. Hilda Coatham and Mrs. Harry Mercer, when Mrs. Challice and Mrs. O. Chatterton, presented them with U.C.W. life memberships memberships and pins. Thanks and appreciation were extended to them for their work during m^ny years. Rev. Wright congratulated these ladies. Mrs' Lois Brown, immediate past president, had received her life membership and pin at a previous U.C.W. unit meeting, as she was unable to be present at this General Meeting. She is the youngest lady in Orono U.C.W. to receive this honour. Rev. Wright installed the new executive for 1981, and wished each one well in their various positions. This U.C.W. Executive is as follows: Past President, Mrs. Lois Brown; President, Mrs. 0. Challice; 1st Vice President, President, -Mrs. A. McGill; 2nd Vice President, Mrs. R. Hancock; Recording Secretary, Secretary, .Mrs. ' Boyd Wood; Corresponding Secretary, Mrs. F. Vagg; Treasurer, Mrs. Merle Gilbart; Social Convenor, Mrs. D. Scott. Christmas devotions by Unit 3 were given by Mrs. Hilda Coatham,' assisted by Mrs. Myrtle Reid. Everyone joined in singing two hymns, "O Little Town of Bethlehem" Bethlehem" and "Joy to the World". Mrs. 0. Chatterton conducted conducted an "In Memoriam" in remembrance of ladies from Orono Church who had passed away in 1980. This year, we remember Mrs. Marjorie Kemp, Mrs. Caroline Lunn, Mrs. Elsie Kelly and Mrs. Viola Prescott. Annual reports were given by unit leaders and various committees. Mrs. Challice thanked all outgoing members members of the executive. The meeting closed with a prayer. Forty-two members and several guests enjoyed a delectable full- course turkey dinner, complete complete with all the fixings, plum puddings and mincemeat mincemeat tarts. A special toast was proposed proposed by Isabelle Challice to Mr. and Mrs. George Day, the heart of the 4-T club and its splendid parties and regular dinners and meetings. The entertainment for the evening was supplied by the 1st Orono Guide and Brownie Troop (over 40 members in all). The girls gave a varied concert of carols and Christmas Christmas songs. The leaders were thanked for bringing the group and the Club treated the girls to hot chocolate and bags of goodies. Gladys Brown led a lively sing-song and then of course Santa made his appearance to the enjoyment of all! Gifts were distributed to everyone and first a sit on Santa's lap. lap. Musical chairs and other games rounded out a very happy and enjoyable evening for all present. Horticultural Xmas party The O. Challices hosted a party for the members of the 1980 horticulture executive, on Tuesday, December 16th. Twenty-two members were present and enjoyed a social evening and of course Christmas Christmas carols, with Gladys Brown at the organ. A buffet dinner was held later in the evening. * Lyn Harrison conducted a Christmas contest, "Party Turkey". We are hoping to make this an annual event to look forward to next year.
