4-Ôrono Weekly, Times; Wednesday, March 4th, 1981 O.M.H.A. Stuff Bantams Taylor's O.M.H.A. Midgets Orono travelled to Bobcaygeon for their last game of the playoffs on February 26th. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. Bobcaygeon scored the first goal at 8:55 of the first period with Orono replying at 3:55 scored by Scott Prescott from Steve Stec and Paul Lane. Orono took the lead at 2:42 of the first period on a goal by Paul Lane assisted by Scott Prescott and Steve Stec. Bobcaygeon tied the game with a goal late in the second period. Orono is the playoff winner, having gained more points than Sunderland, Minden and Bobcaygeon. Bobcaygeon. The boys did not lose a game in the series. Feb. 12th - Orono 12, Minden 3 The local boys hosted Minden for the first time this year in their round robin playoff series, and came away with a big win. Feb. 22 - Orono 9, Minden 4 Orono travelled to Minden on Sunday for their last game of the first round playoff series and came home undefeated knocking off Minden 9 to 4. Minden played a much stronger game and opened the scoring before Orono got on track. Orono cut a swath through the round robin series winning all their games scoring 58 goals and having only 16 scored against Geoff Green and Rick Martin. Feb. 28th - Orono 3, Oshawa 4 Orono played host to Oshawa on Saturday evening and came away with only their second loss of the season and probably their poorest game of the season to date. Oshawa played with only 8 skaters and outhustled Orono at every move, the local boys just could not seem to get moving in this exhibition game. Bantam Playdowns Orono 7, Tarnworth 2 Orono travelled to Tarnworth on Sunday afternoon playing their second game in less than 20 hours. The local boys got off to a strong start scoring with only two minutes gone in the'gaihe. Tarnworth played a strong game in front of their own net and the referees let many numerous interference and tripping calls go by noticing only the local boys blue and white sweaters. Orono scored four goals in the first period and three in the second. Tarnworth U.C. Pee Orono 2 travelled to Colborne for a tournament on February 28th. In their first game against Cobourg the boys fell behind 3 goals and then tied the game with 12 seconds left on the clock. In overtime after 5 minutes the game still tied, theÿ went to a shoot out. Darren Lewis scored for Orono and then Rory Russell for Cobourg. Allan Hall stopped the next 3 shots and then with Orono having 1 shot left Shawn Bailey scored to win the game 5-4. In regulation play goal scorers were Brad Peters 1, answered with two in the third to spoil Geoff Green's shutout, who played a very strong game in the Orono net. Everyone for Orono played a very strong game forechecking and backchecking and the defence coming up strong on many occasions. Scoring for Orono: Fred Cashin 3 (hat trick), Mike Hamel 2, Greg Vey 2. Darren Lewis and Derek Henry were presentéd with medallions for M.V.P., Darren Lewis for game 1 and Derek Henr^ for game 2. Roughley Insurance Novice On Friday evening Orono hosted, Baltimore tieing them 5-5 but winning the first round semi-finals. Blaine Souch opened the scoring assisted by Steve Vanderschee. Baltimore came back to score two goals. Anthony Webb unassisted tied the game at the end of the first period. The second period saw goqd end to end plays with Baltimore scoring one goal. Anthony Webb scored two goals in the third with assists going to Blaine Souch and Mike Goodmurphy. Todd Gray assisted by Blaine Souch and Anthony Webb. Baltimore scored two goals to tie the game. Matthews aiid Hills O.M H.A, Pee Wees On February 24th in the final game of our playoffs Orono faced super goaltending and were defeated 2-1 by Sunderland. Paul Henry scored the Orono goal with assist from Eric Dreslihski. The Pee Wees have now completed their round robin series which they wonby virtue of 4 wins, 1 tie and 1 loss. Congratulations, fellas on your enthusiasm enthusiasm and hard work. This Wednesday we travel to Tarnworth for the first game in the best 2 out of 3 series. Ne Wee No. 1 On Feb. 24th Orono No. 1 played their first playoff game against Newcastle No. 2. Orono fell behind early in the game, as Newcastle scored two first period goals. In the second period both teams, were playing a close checking game, Newcastle made it 3-0 but with just over a minute left in the period Kevin Hartwig finally put the puck in the net, with assists goirig to Robert Snoek and Tim Mercer. In the third period Orono came out flying. Darren Dennis-scored the second Orono goal with assist going to Mark Sargent with thirty-five seconds left in the game. Final score Newcastle 3, Orono 2. Orono came out flying in the first period but fell behind 1-0. In the second period Orono just couldn't put the puck in the net. Orono came out of the period behiitd 3-0. In the third period Orono scored 2 goals to Baltimore's 1. Orono goal scorers were Robert Snoek and - Peter Armstrong, assist going to Mark Sargent and Todd Mercer. Final score Baltimore 4, Orono 2. Special mention to Robert Snoek, Mike Lane and Robbie Jerome. Orçno played their next game against Port Hope. Orono came out flying again in this game. Orono had a lot of goal scoring chances but couldn't find the net, with the first period ending 0-0. In the second period Port Hope turned the tables and scored four unanswered goals. The third period saw Orono score two goals, but that Was not enough, with the final score Port Hope 4, Orono 2. Orono goals were scored by: Peter Armstrong and Robert Kelpac, assists going to Tim Mercer, Robbie Jerorhe and Peter Armstrong. Special mention to Peter Armstrong, Jason Carleton and Robert Kelpac.
