The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is holding its fifth annual maple syrup demonstration at Purple Purple Woods Conservation Area. Guided tours of the sugar bush will be held on the weekends of March 21-22 and March 28-29. There will also be tours during the week of the March school break, March 23-27. Tours will start at the Conservation Area parking lot at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Community groups wishing to visit the demonstration demonstration are asked to contact the Authority office to make a reservation. As part of the Authority's conservation education programme, programme, 3,682 students will be attending the demonstration. demonstration. All available school tours are already hooked. The grand finale of the annual demonstration is the pancake weekend, April 4-5. The, pancake weekend is a co-operative project of the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Conservation Authority and the Durham A.M. Kiwanis Club. Tours of the sugar bush will start at the parking lot every half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In addition to the tours, visitors will have the opportunity to purchase pancakes pancakes with fresh maple syrup. A horse drawn wagon ride will be available for children at 50c. per ride. Purple Woods Conservation Area is located north of Raglan at the southeast corner of Simcoe Street at the 10th Concession. There was much controversy controversy over what the exact minimum wage was so I phoned the Canada Employment Employment Centre on Monday and received some interesting facts. Minimum wage for a student under 16 is $2.15, for 18 and over the rate is $3.00. If you are 19 and over and work in a licensed restaurant the minimum rate you will receive receive is $2.50. There is also a learners rate which is at present $2.90. I also received information from the Centre that these minimum rates will increase by .30c on» March 31st.
